It’s $43k outstate now… at Alabama.
I couldn’t find that number anywhere. I’m seeing $33k before financial aid and the average out of state is paying $21k.
U of Michigan is listed at the most expensive for out of state at $47k

It’s on a billboard in Tuscaloosa.
It’s all in including tuition, room and board, dining etc but doesn’t include Greek life dues.
Granted they give more out state scholarships that just about any other P4 school so I’m sure for most it’s less than that, but $43k is the number I saw.

I had a <3.0 GPA in high school
Went out of state to Ole Miss 2018-2023 (goated 5 years)
Graduated with $7k in debt, scholarships covered the rest. In a masters program now and going to law school soon. When i read posts about people paying six figs to go to a public university for undergrad, a part of me dies. What a waste of money and a huge percentage of these kids are going to regret it when reality hits them in a decade. Undergrad should be done as cheaply as possible imo

Went to UNO in the mid 2000's.
Tops covered it completely. Was something a little over $2,000 per semester. I paid for books out of pocket.

So you're budgeting $1.2M, just for your kids college education?
That's absolutely asinine. If youre wealthy and can swing it, good for you. That's vastly out of reach for the average human.

La bill 77 is going to mess up tops for lots of students

You failed as a parent if your kid can’t get schollies in this environment. Can’t empathize….my kid is 4.2 and 33 act at BRMHS. Baby Ivys are giving us money. Gonna be cheaper to send older to school than younger to SJS. Not complaining.

My son is 3.8 with ap classes and will have a college credit done. All of his is paid for. But la bill 77 will not help the greater good for most students. It will harmfully impact well over a thousand of LSU students and cost the taxpayers an additional 30 million.

I remember $2600 for the semester at LSU, full time student.
I graduated LSU in 1998. Didn’t have TOPS so I went on mostly student loans and small grants. Finished 4 year degree with a total student loan debt of around $16k and that included money used for books and other fees.
I couldn’t imagine leaving a 4 year undergrad with six figure debt. It’s just insanity.

That is because you paid your rent and food out of your pocket, or you lived at home. Tuition at LSU will run the OP about 4-5k a year....The other 20k each year is for dorm or rent and food

Senior in high school. 29 ACT, 3.99 unweighted GPA (which means a real school would account for a higher point scale on AP/college prep classes, resulting in a GPA over 4.0) and thousands of hours of community service.
University said frick you for scholarships and stroke a check.
I should've told my kid to party, not study and forget about making great grades. I've resigned myself to making a personal visit to the admissions office and telling them to suck a big hog.

But this is an example of one year's costs:
Detailed Breakdown:
Tuition: $59,320
Health Services: $1,800
Housing Rate: $13,532
Student Services: $3,676
Total Billed Costs: $86,926 (includes tuition, fees, housing, food, and other expenses)
Just a little under what it will be at TCU this Fall.

But yet we got denied from entry from Michigan and UNC with a 4.45 and a 35. Your kid must have started 7 charities and prevented world war then.

This is a huge problem for our country. Not only do we waste this money on a worthless degree but we also miss out on young capable workers who need to be learning a trade. I think 3/4 of the kids in college shouldn’t be there. They should enter the workforce and learn something useful. This idea that every kid needs to go to college to become successful has to end. I understand as a parent you want your child to have that experience but it just isn’t what it used to be. The value of the actual education has been greatly diminished. You’re basically paying $100k for your kid to have fun.
