They are followers of her, not her 7 year old child. Do you really not understand the difference?

Nah, he's just testing his camera.

And no one exploited the photos of her 7 year old. It was a dude shooting pics in a park. Who really gives a damn. My kids are at parks constantly playing games and such, there is always someone taking pics. Who cares.

And my post was in response to HER being a celebrity. Seems she is good with celebrity when it works to her favor. The same people that created the paparazzi are the same people she attempted to weaponize for her benefit.

If you cant see the hypocrisy there

No. You just project your own negative feelings into my posts. You need help, son.

What exactly is your hobby?

Do you not find it weird to take pictures of little kids soccer games with an old extended zoom lens?

I just go for walks. Get outdoors and get a little exercise too. I shoot anything I see that is interesting.

I didn't think it was weird at all after he had very reasonable answers. It's not like he was hiding in the bushes, he was standing out in the open.

If you are that worried about your kids it is probably best to keep them inside instead of trampling on other people's rights.

As I already said, I would have handled things differently. I know this exact situation is possible. But this guy is being judged as guilty just because of someone's paranoia.

It came off as a bit aggressive, but she's not wrong. Dude could be anyone taking pictures of kids not associated with any of them.

Also, Hilary Duff is my girl.

I would love to see this boards reaction to a lone black guy with a telepho lens taking pictures of their kids at a BREC park soccer game. Man, how the narrative would change
I'd figure he was from the park or someone hired to do promotional ads for the park and the soccer league. It's happened at my kid's games in the past. Nobody cared.

Why are you projecting your issues onto others?

Parents send me videos of my son all the time. I post them and people think I’m a freak for recording my son so much. Strange.

Well he couldn't answer the question.

This is my point. Tabloids pay a lot of money for the right pictures of celebrities. And not every celebrity is of equal value.

If he went to the tabloids and said "Look I got pictures of Hilary Duff's kids", they will first say "How do we know that is her kids?". If he was in it for the money, his money shots would have been of Hilary Duff coming up to him with an attitude (that's how they would spin it).. Headlines "Hilary Duff Goes Crazy On Amateur Photographer".

But evidently Ed knows it all so I wish he would come explain it for me.

Personally I’d rather not have some guy taking a picture of my daughter.

Let's say your daughter plays sports in HS. You do realize there could be times when a local reporter might show up to take some pictures and the next day he could have an article about your daughter without you even knowing right?

We live in a world where people are taking pictures everywhere, there are video cameras everywhere. There are private businesses that have cameras videoing all around their business. If you just pass by it, you are videoed and become part of their log. People have drones that fly over and take pictures.

People have cameras in their car videoing as they drive. Why is it a big deal for this guy to do it? At least you know he is doing it.

It's understandable that she's sensitive and suspicious of people being paparazzi, but she can't just come to that conclusion and harass the guy.

While there is a CA law against stalking the kids of celebs, this guy didn't seem to know who she was, and unless he has a history of selling pics of celebs, what he was doing was legal and will always be legal.

This. He could have just been trying out his camera. This doesn't look like what she thinks it is.

This reminds me of the time I bought my first pro-quality zoom, a Nikon 70-200 f2.8 lens. I wanted to try it out right away, so I walked to a local park with my girlfriend to find things to shoot, and it just so happens a local dance studio was having a recital on an open stage. They were all young girls and early teens, and I took a bunch of pictures, trying to capture good moments (since they are in motion, you have to take a lot of shots to freeze the right moments). After shooting for a while, I said to my girlfriend, "Boy am I glad you're here with me." I was conscious that a lone male (who doesn't appear to know anyone there) taking a bunch of pictures of girls can seem a little odd. No one even batted an eye, however, since everyone was focused on watching their kids. Soon after, I went to a friend's kid's soccer game and took a bunch of pictures. No one looked at me funny there either.

My point is, people with fancy camera equipment are always looking for things and people to shoot. Telephoto lenses are typically used to shoot people and animals from a distance. Taking sports pics is an extremely common use of a 70-200 f2.8 lens. You get that nice out-of-focus background:

The guy in Hilary's video was shooting Nikon's latest Z-mount mirrorless body with a 70-200 f2.8 lens (F-mount) and mounted with the FTZ adapter. With this setup, taking pictures of people playing sports in the park is not unusual.

Photogs first response that what he was doing was ‘legal’ points to him being there in a paparazzi role vs. someone innocently shooting some pics with a new lens.

She likely knows most of the kids her kids play sports with. Especially at that age. Also, she didn't know. She asked him. He told her.

Does she know the parents on the other team? Why did she approach this one guy with her camera on if she really didn’t know?

See what I’m thinking happened is she saw a black man taking pictures and no black kids on the field so she whipped her phone out to confront him.

But that’s just me.

Says the ignorant person who doesn't know what he's talking about.

Photographers who shoot in public places frequently get harassed, so it doesn't surprise me one bit that his reaction was to say that "it's legal." Any serious amateur photographer who has read photography web sites or hung out in photography forums has read about harassment and photographers' rights.

He offered to show his ID. Unless he's a known paparazzo, she doesn't have a right to harass him.
