It’s hilarious to me that people don’t realize they are on vacation and enjoying a picturesque version of the place they are visiting and not what the typical people experience day to day.

So is it bullshite when foreigners visit NYC and notice that:

- Nobody is happy
- Everyone is fat
- Very few eat healthy
- People hate life

I have a colleague that thinks like this. She is envious of their “way of life” but doesn’t understand that economic mobility is even more constrained than here because of their no growth environment. She is in oil and gas so her mindset is mind boggling.

I've been to Costa Rica a few times and the only assholes I met were Americans.

Had a coworker explain to me he and his wife travelled so they could learn about others in the world and their lives and struggles…it broadened them.

Now understand this guy complained about the toilet paper in The bathroom.. to rough… ( we were a small private company)…he grew up privileged and his wife was born on third base… and thought she hit a home run in life .

He traveled to only very privileged places… I thought to myself yeah I guess it is interesting learning how people of all different cultures have to suck up to rich Americans for tips..

I will go ahead and point out that there is some truth here. It is a fact that governments in the EU heavily regulate food additives. The orange Fanta soft drink is clear because they don't allow orange dye. There are numerous similar examples.

I am not a dietician and can't argue as to the health benefits one way or the other but I would tend to believe that less artificial additives and chemicals is a good thing. Would you not agree?

When I lived in Boston, the cable guy asked me if we had alligators in the backyard. My father warned me this would happen and I thought he was full of shite until it did.

People have asked me this too.

I hated to be stereotypical but the actual answer was "very rarely"

Just got back from traveling half of Germany, basically everyone there is fit or at least on the thinner side until you see American tourists or older (65+) Germans who aren't walking as much.

Yeah, I've had my lawn guy inform me that he "skipped the very back because that gator is hanging out." I live in St. George.

Some of it is true. I’ve spent a lot of time in Europe, they really do have way fewer fat people and processed foods.

On one of her first visits here, she asked me if I had alligators by my house.

"No, of course not."

Damn if the HOA website didn't have a BOLO about an alligator near the main entrance the next day.

So you think all the locals identify the fact someone is there on vacation and suddenly become a Truman Show-esque portrait of their town?

"Ope, Bob and Donna are headed here for a vacation, everyone lose weight, act happy and revamp our entire dietary inclusions before November 15th! And also, APPRECIATE THE frick OUT OF LIFE"

Does it hurt to be that dumb?
