Ok, then they could likely send their child to regular child care and be doing better financially.
And you could turn your internet off and stop derping up this thread and be doing better yourself. Go ahead.

Seriously, what am I missing besides a bunch of phonies on the OT pretending they do better?
I think most just read the title and react based on that
its a misleading title as the hypothetical family is, in no way, just scraping by
could they do some things better? absolutely (like more towards retirement/investments), but you are right, this hypothetical family is doing way better than most

It seems people are missing the point. It's to make fun of the mindset that these folks are "just scraping by"

I'm lol'ing that a lot of you think that $8k for two vacations is a lot.

Or you could stop being a petulant child and being bothered by what other men post on the internet and go find something else to do.

What the frick is this nonsense? They cover all of their costs, including insurance and retirement, while enjoying nice things and vacations, all while still having an extra $500 left over for anything else that might come up.
100% understand what you are saying, however my approach would be more investments. I didn't see an IRA or a brokerage account.
A lot of their money is invested in depreciating assets. They are not growing their business per say.
Again that is my approach. They are well within their right to be handling the way things are now, but they are not considered scraping by.

1,000 a month on food for a family of three? They must be fat as frick.
Food costs more because the overhead of the grocery store costs more. It's SF.

This was a quality thread I must say. Well done.

No kidding. I spend 8k myself on vacations

Did you just assume everyone else's gender?

The guy’s budget included a two week trip to Maui for a family of 3
My overall point is that the budget could easily be culled down to give them a bigger surplus, and their quality of life wouldn’t really go down much.

I don't think i've ever been on an 8k vacation, hence why I wouldn't pay for one to begin with
Then again I don't care for vacations.

Let's see a real budget of a real family in the South and see what type of budget they have.
I'll give you mine:
Take Home After Taxes: $4800/month

just a 3 day weekend in NYC runs around 5k without even buying anything.

Not only are they not just scraping by, they're doing it in one of the most expensive cities in the US. That's not an insignificant detail, and it's completely lost on most here.
