there are entire communities of retirement double wides with nice porches in Florida. they have swim up bar pools, golf. I know people that live in Barefoot Bay Fla. they are very happy. some smart to buy one for $79K cash, no worries
They get a lot of hate, but can make sense. I'd buy one in this market before I paid $150/sf for a stick built home.

Tiny burners on a gas stove
I don’t mind this at all. Good for small pots.

Personal taste?

Rain" showers
Make no scenes

Touch" faucets
Truly lazy people, it doesn't take that much effort to turn on a faucet
quote:
Square kitchen sinks
Personal style choice, but i can see the flaw in the corners.
quote:
Kitchen sinks with half-wall dividers and/or with a tiny side
Usually the small side has the garbage disposal. Also for washing vegetables and such without using the larger sink area.

Tiny burners on a gas stove
For using small pots and pans. Especially on gas stoves. The larger burner heats the handle and other areas you would prefer not to get hot. Not everyone is using a 10 gallon stock pot for every meal.
quote:
Longitudinally divided refrigerator/freezers
Personal taste ease of access. shite at the bottom in the back of the drawer is a pain to reach.
quote:
Double garage with a center post and 2 doors instead of one big door
Less luxury and more cost saving measure. It costs a lot more to custom order the larger door and header beam. So it's actually cheaper to drop that post in there for structural support and 2 cheaper standard off the shelf doors.

I’ve seen under-counter microwaves touted as a more refined element and I don’t get it. Why would I want to have to bend over every time I use the microwave?
I would’ve agreed with you until we had one. It’s really nice to be able to stir stuff without taking the bowl/plate out of the microwave.

the big old farm sinks which I suppose makes rustic and poor trendy.
the high kitchen sink faucets that have a coil wrapped that are awkwardly functional. some known expensive brands are known to leak from the hose part under the sink-- when you pull to extend. some are nice but not all.

Our house has the rain showers, square sink and longitudinally divided fridge. Sorry you cannot afford house upgrades

the only drawback is no basement but few have basements in the south anyway.

"Rain" showers - seriously, what gives? The whole point of having a diagonally-aimed shower is you can keep your head above the water while you wash. Having it come straight down on top of your head is dumb.
I wasn't sure I'd like a rain shower head so I put in both rain and regular shower heads in the shower in the house I built. The rain head is awesome, and I never use the conventional shower head.
What I refused to do was put in those stupid skinny horizontal backsplash tiles behind the kitchen counters. Some day they will be looked at in the same way as avocado refrigerators.
Painting perfectly good wooden cabinets white is also a trend I don't understand, at all.

"Touch" faucets - these are the very definition of a solution to a problem that didn't exist. They do lots of weird shite like turn off if you pull down the shower hose. Pushing the normal lever up or down is stunningly easy - even if you have dirty hands. These are maddening.
So you got the cheap one that has the metal pull down lol

We had a touch faucet in the kitchen sink and it was great until it wasn’t. About 3 years into service it started acting up intermittently, turn on by itself, not turn on at all, etc. I changed batteries multiple times then changed the solenoid and it just never worked right again. Other than that I enjoyed having it when I had messy hands or something I was holding made it easier to turn off and on.
That’s almost certainly a ground issue. Really easy to fix. Like barely harder than changing the battery.

A fridge with a built in large touchscreen computer is lazy even if you have more money than God.

until we get to this
why bother?
Also why has no one made masks for people to facetime?

Square kitchen sinks
The "commercial use at home" trend is big these days. Most commercial sinks are square / rectangular, so people feel like a real chef with those.

You do not meet the high income standards to post on the OT
But points for the subtle brag that you are poor.

Yes the large/small burner is skcthat you can match potnsize to the burner size and be “energy efficient”
That saidnone of my burners is large but has the option to use as “large” or “small”. Knob is turned a different way for each.

So called water closets. Why does the toilet need its own tiny room? Who wants to be confined after an episode of explosive diarrhea.

I opened this thread thinking it was going to go a different direction... but you know what... I agree with you on most of these.

These are professional, intelligent folks but two years of having touch faucets have retrained them.
