I asked chatGPT to fix it up for you
quote:
I know you can spot the hidden challenges and savor life’s simple joys.
You’ve learned strength in body and spirit, stood as a teammate, led as a captain, and risen as a champion all your own.
You’ve steadied the mast in stormy seas, lifted your voice in music and laughter, calmed wild moments and cared for the smallest lives.
You’ve worked hard when the road was tough, aimed high, and faced each trail with courage.
You’ve stared down chaos with wit and resolve, built fires of passion and put them to rest with wisdom.
All these moments, all these phases of you, are stepping stones on the journey ahead.
Go forward with pride, carry every lesson, and know that the horizon is wide and waiting.
Fair winds and following seas, my son.

He'll probably be embarrassed by what you wrote now and cherish it when he's 50 and comes across it again. That being said, less can be more in situations like these, but every relationship is different. Just write from the heart and it'll be fine. My parents submitted nothing for my yearbook. We are an emotionally distant and hard to know family though.

Pretty great advice overall for a young man starting life’s journey.

That makes it much more easy to read.

Might consider paring it down a little, but other than that I liked OPs (with some punctuation and paragraphs) and I liked Sallys version too.
My parents did the "Congratulations, love Mom and Dad" message on mine and it was a little disappointing. Last time I dug up a yearbook a few years ago in my mid-30s, it was still as disappointing.
I say go for it. Your son will only have one high school senior yearbook, live a little

Son, I know you've,
Got what it takes,
To tell the berries from the snakes.
Work in a team, or on your own,
My son, oh how much you have grown,
You hold the mast, and know no fear,
Your song so strong and ringing clear,
Your tune could soothe the savage beast,
Yet you find time to help the least,
You know the grind, and play the game,
The prize is yours if you take aim,
And when you face that wild trail,
Your stare, defiant, shall not fail,
When chaos and the hell flames spit,
You'll rise above, with pluck and wit,
And all these steps and milestones,
You'll make them all your own, your own,
Live well with love, and each day seize,
My son, fair winds,
And Following seas.
Got what it takes,
To tell the berries from the snakes.
Work in a team, or on your own,
My son, oh how much you have grown,

And Following seas.

I reworked your words. See if they say what you are trying to.

Maybe give your kid some props, kind of like this?

Well done. Reminds me of my dad. He had a new poem for every milestone.

Son or Daughter.
We are so proud of the work you've put in to graduate from high school. Always remember that time will continue to move forward and to overcome, you must adapt to the changes time brings forth.
Now get a job because we're not paying for your college.
Love,
Mom and Dad

Write him a private letter. Don't put all that stuff in his yearbook.

Just tell him to wear sunscreen!
