The 30A is going to find out which contractors are the best I’m afraid. Lots of new construction is about to be tested.
I'm here now picking up some outdoor furniture but lets not pretend some tropical storm winds and maybe a cat 1 gust is going to take down anything built in Florida in the past 15 years.

How will the west side of the storm be? My mom, stepdad, and brother live about 100 miles west of where it’s supposed to make landfall. Should they leave? They live in a new and sturdy house (brick). Thanks weather baws.
depends on what you mean from "suppose to make landfall." If I were in the cone right now, I would have an evacuation plan and enact it now. If I am within 100 miles of the cone, I would have a plan and be ready to enact it at anytime this afternoon, based on the updates. Once this thing starts really building up, it will gain national attention, MSM, social media, etc. It will then be crowded to leave, hotels booked for hundreds of miles, groceries will be tough to come by, etc.

What is the likelihood this gets pushed east and we see hurricane level winds here?
Pretty decent chance you’ll see hurricane force gusts on any landfall on the current forecasted track.
Anything more east of that brings even higher winds into play.

Are we expecting a wide wind field on helene?

I was referring to the black line in the center of the cone. This will be a strong storm and I understand anywhere inside the cone is in play for landfall.

Yes, that’s what the thinking is. NHC continues to mention that this will be a large storm in terms of its physical size, so the tropical storm force winds should extend a long distance from the center.

NHC is forecasting sustained winds of 57mph extending 70-80 miles from the center right now at landfall. Catching a hurricane gust from that is pretty likely.

Looks like both the GFS and Euro are suggesting we might be doing this same thing from this same area in a week.

How bout One at a time chief?
Posted on 9/25/24 at 7:55 am to DomincDecoco
She’s really blowing up. Definitely organizing at a pretty fast pace.

Has the timing of the low pressure system coming in from the west slowed down some?
I've been following the NHC interactive cone/track for the last 24 hours or so and it seems like that has slid to the west as it gets up around Atlanta. Initially it was showing the center of the track going between Atlanta and Athens, then pretty much right over Atlanta, now this morning has it west of the city.

I’ve got family in the Atlanta Metro area, should I tell them anything in particular. I know there will be a lot of rain, but what about wind?

there will be wind. really depends on where the eye rolls through and location of people.

When they say wind field is xx miles .. they mean total across not out to each side from center, correct?

That thing is going to blow up into a historic Cat 6.

Dad in Cancun texted and said “not as bad as it looks”.
I don’t know what that really means or if he does either (yet). He’s never been in a Hurricane.
I know it’s very small compared to how it will be when it gets to the states.
Just wanted to pass that (worthless?) information along.

Well, I mean...it's a TS or low 1 at this point.
Floridians will likely have a differing opinion.
Posted on 9/25/24 at 8:16 am to MAXtheTIGER
Not really. Depends on what part of the metro most likely. Wind wise, it’s all about trees and power outages here. A mid strength TS through Atlanta will be a colossal mess in that regard.
We are doing minor prep and getting the basement bedroom ready, not sure what else you can do with 130 ft trees by the dozen on every lot.
