Yes if I were evacuating and weren't heading to a week long non refundable vacation the likely won't be effected very much by this thing.

Understood. Best of luck on the vacation.

I went through Michael in Mexico beach. We didn't know it was cat five until about 12 hrs before landfall. All week long they were saying 1,2,or 3. I remember getting the alert on my phone at 1am saying 176 mph winds gusting to 197. Needless to say it was a hell of a day

Michael was an interesting one. In the case of Michael, the discussions a few days out talked about the potential high end strength likelihood, but they forecasted 120mph near landfall at 48 hours out and 125mph near landfall 24 hours out.

I always recommend people read the discussion each time it’s updated. The news stations just take the forecast locations and strength and typically do very little to discuss the confidence or lack thereof that the NHC discusses in each forecast update.

Am I looking at this right? Some of the spaghetti plots I’ve seen have this thing in the very southern gulf at 72 hours and damn near making landfall 24 hours later. That thing will be absolutely booking it north, which would be a great thing for anyone in its path.

Can you leave a day early?

Our checkin isn't till Saturday afternoon so we plan to Friday night Saturday morning.

On day early would out us in the storm if the Thursday landfall is correct.

Leaving 2-3 days early wouldn't be an option.

We will have check into routes and closures throughout the day Friday.

Hope the people in the oath stay safe and come away with as little damage as possible

The forward speed will help for rainfall and duration of winds. However, we’re probably looking at a storm that will “catch people off guard” because they won’t start caring until it’s a hurricane, which will only be 36 hours or so away.

It’s good and bad. Places inland
100-150 miles could be facing some wind damage that normally wouldn’t happen.

Given the size, your typical pressure to category relationships are gonna be off. Lower pressures than you'd expect for the wind.
