Regarding an eastward move once inland, it’s been two hurricanes in a row with an eastward move upon landfall. The interesting thing is the deterministic runs, gfs, and high res models, hrrr, etc have shown an eastward move relative to the plots and nhc cone. Nhc uses the plots to make the cone and it’s two hurricanes in a row where the high res showed it going east. So it shifted east or did what it was supposed to do…. Depending on what you were looking at.

Storms will often become east-side heavy with precip after landfall too, exacerbating the perceived eastern shift. You saw it with Helene and you saw it with Francine. While Francine shifted east it also was east loaded which brought the worst of it to New Orleans and the northshore without the center going directly through there.

LOL, I’m 20 miles east of Atlanta and this was a big nothing burger around here.

Looks like our local meteorologists missed out on their participation trophies. They seem sad.

What ended up being the strongest recorded gust last night?

I saw Perry had a gust to 99 last night, but I’m on the can and haven’t had a chance to look at it yet this morning.

Here was a model from 9/25. It definitely shifted way further east.

It seems anyone on the eastern side of this storm is getting pummeled but the western side hasn’t been that bad.

The cone isn't static, it shifts with the forecast/modeling. The NHC corrects itself as new information comes to light.

That’s why it is meaningless.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen the NHC get the path so wrong after landfall. I swear it was supposed to go over Atlanta metro last night and completely missed it by almost 200 miles east.

The latest GFS (6z) does not have that.

Agreed...which is why it's pointless to defend the cone's accuracy, as some are choosing to do.

Actually, I think we've learned it's proven very valuable when alerting which areas need to be evacuated/prepared prior to landfall. But to argue it's longer-term accuracy or value beyond that is a pretty fruitless endeavor.

A good 120 miles or so. From Columbus to Milledgeville/Greensboro.

Wind wise hasn't been bad at all on the west side. But that's normal as the west side of a storm is the good/dry side. Still got a shite ton of rain.

The flooding near my neighborhood is anything but a nothing-burger.

I don't think that chlorine float is working too well. that water looks dirty as hell.

Might want to add a puck or two and I’d definitely check the filter.

The bootlickers will be here soon to try to get you back in line.

Questioning the projected path is not allowed in this thread. Learned this last hurricane thread a few weeks ago.

Power outages are now more than 4 million.

Over a million each in SC, FL, GA.

SC now has more than FL.

So Helen fell apart very quickly upon landfall. That's a good thing so why are people in this thread complaining about it to the point of sounding disappointed?

Power is still out. Lots of trees are reported down along with power lines. Houses have roof damage.
