I think wind is the least of worries for Florida. The surge seems very abnormally high and wide. I mean you’ve got flooding in Tampa over 100 miles from the core of this thing.

Heard from family in High Springs (power is OUT) and Gainesville (power still ON).

Praying for all those impacted by the storm.

Sadly, reports out of wheeler county near me is a brief touchdown of a tornado killed a couple when it completely threw their mobile home across the highway.

Sure looks like this is more of a surge event than wind event.

PG has quite a few mobile home parks. That is the first and last time I've ever seen them totally flattened.

The first guy in was from the electric company. He called in that he sees hundreds of dead bodies everywhere. He said there were so many tht he could not possibly count them.

The "official" count was like 10's of bodies, or something substantially less.

Tons of surge. But those gusts on some of the live streams are way higher than those map readings which makes it look very insignificant

Am I reading these charts from NWS that it’s currently only producing TS winds? I know surge is the killer but sort of surprising.

Tallahassee Airport - NW winds at 39 mph gusting to 58 mph about 15 minutes ago.

They only report once an hour on the NWS site so could be higher??

Florida outages up to 1.13 million and Georgia up to 93K and rising quickly.

Weak arse tropical storm Alberto made landfall in Mexico but produced storm surge in Louisiana because the circulation with huge.

Beryl didn't cause hardly any surge in LA but was a decent hurricane making landfall in Matagorda Bay.. but it was a much smaller circulation. Pretty something how it works like that.

Winds aren’t always consistent in hurricanes. They ebb and flow and can be different depending on the exact location. There aren’t nearly enough observation stations in the area where landfall occurred to a say for sure what the highest winds were in that area.

Here you go

ETA: Most of those stations record all readings. They will not post all those readings, though. So, you could have a gust happen between the five minute intervals and it not get recorded on the regular entry.
