Looks like two old school steam trains making tight circles around the eyewall, pretty crazy. And then the waves that echo outward from there would be beautiful if not so disastrous

Nearly 5 feet of storm surge being observed along the western Florida Peninsula this evening due to Hurricane #Helene. Rising tides over the next several hours could exacerbate these levels. Please be safe and aware if you're in coastal areas. Much worse storm surge is expected in the Big Bend region later tonight.

Historic flooding is looking likely well inland due to very heavy rains from #Helene over the next 24 hours - especially in the hills of northern GA, into eastern TN, and western NC and SC. If you live in an area with hills and it has rained already in the past few days, landslides are possible! Consider relocating until the storm passes.

They are estimating the French Broad River (Asheville area) to crest 10 ft above the record. The Western NC mountain areas are about to get crushed
If that's true then alot of West Ashville and the river arts district is verifiably fricked right?

I don’t know shite about frick, but that’s amazing how it kind of explodes. The guy who described it as a train getting wound up is a perfect representation.

I have a couple farming friends in SWGA that are extremely fricked. Depressing talking to them, as many of them have barely recovered from Michael.

Then I have another friend that owns a business that sells and services center pivot irrigation systems that’s about to make so much money when this storm lays damn near every pivot in the state down.

This hurricane has became beautiful. Amazing it happened right before it hits.

"Beautiful and amazing" in a sense of DAMN NATURE, YOU SCARY

I've always been fascinated with extreme weather and the science behind it, and that fascination is always fun until you have real-life property and life at stake. Luckily my life is far northwest right now but I have a home on the outer ends of Helene's effects and it always makes me nervous

IS keeping your fishing boat in your side yard just a Louisiana and Mississippi thing (to escape storm surges) or do some Floridians do it too?

What an absolutely fascinating day in an evolution of storm. I’m in her path as well but want to send my thoughts/prayers to all those that have been and will be impacted. GL to all tonight
