The good news for inland areas like that, is that it's not stalling out or slowing down and dumping a ton of rain.

Now, think about this......despite that, the worst rain forecast for part of western NC is 20-30" of rain.

Biltmore House is up above and adjacent to the French Broad. The flood in the early 1900s wiped out the huge and (from their offerings) excellent Nursery that they ran down on the river bottom lands. The destruction was so bad they abandoned any thought of rebuilding.

If you are familiar with the granite balds near Lake Lure (reminds me of Yosemite), I wonder if this kind of storm is what it takes to keep soil from accumulating long term on the balds.

IS keeping your fishing boat in your side yard just a Louisiana and Mississippi thing (to escape storm surges) or do some Floridians do it too?

I do. Two boats, two kayaks...basically my own micro navy.

Josh Morgerman was in a bad spot the last time he posted. He hasn't updated to say whether or not he decided to relocate.

Gotdamn she continues to gather strength

To you guys like RDS, the boat, legend, etc - is there anything out in the near future to keep her from strengthening more or even hindering her a bit? Or is this just a case of favorable conditions all the way through to the eastern seaboard?

Look at the extremely dry air pushing into SE LA and pushing Helene away. It's all about timing.

Sadly, I don't think those structures are going to make it through this one, and yes, they better head for higher ground because this is going to be on them soon.

Air Force Hurricane Hunters are on their way back into Helene. One of the NOAA planes is already in there.

I just looked on the FlightRadar24 app, and there’s a Spirit Airlines plane passing between the Hurricane Hunter plane and the coast. I bet that’s a wild ride, but also not sure if the storm reaches that high in altitude.

Yea I saw that.

ATL has so many trees in and around the city if it goes through downtown it’s going to be interesting.

It looked earlier like Forsyth would be on the east side of the track maybe clipped by the eye. If it shifts more east feel like that should put it to where we dodge it

Some baw left from Houston and flew right over the top of the eye.

Cedar Key is showing 44 gusting to 52 mph but may be a few minutes old compared to live on TV.

Nope. This was the reason for the early concern that this one would have a very high ceiling. The upper air pattern and the path fully over the loop current told the story early.
