Finance gurus, what is real rent discount the city of Nola is giving Caesars at $103 million present value infusion?

Not to Caesar’s, but the discount rate according to WWLTV is 8.75%

TPG out of Ft Worth is the one who eventually benefits not Caesars.

quote:

The city is negotiating the deal with TPG, a global investment firm that manages more than $300 billion in assets. Officials say the firm was chosen after a competitive process that drew interest from more than a dozen companies. With the deal, TPG would essentially take over the rights to collect those rent payments over the nine-year period as the city's primary partner in the monetization. Because of the discount built into the deal, an 8.75% rate, the city would receive roughly $4.7 million less per year than it would under the original lease terms.

Helena was on the city council! Total incompetence by Helena and the city council to not know what was going on with city budgets, etc.

Except they tried, LaToya told them to F off, and the judges backed LaToya

The position of mayor in this city is absurdly strong.

Wonder how heavily the rent is discounted to present value?

And NO will blow it in 6 months and then no more money for 8.5 years.

Typical short term thinking by politicians.

To be fair to Helena, she doesn't have a lot of good options. She has inherited one of the worst situations imaginable.

She was part of the mess before becoming mayor, and she was only elected because she happened to be a White female that could get the votes to replace the Destroyer. She’s nothing more than a Double A version of Hillary Clinton.

The council asked about the shortfall and OT. They were blocked by Latoya and the CAO and told it was under control.

The only Republican in the race was the auditor and he never mentioned the budget shortfall.

Dude has disappeared.

While the Mayor proposes the budget, the Council reviews, amends, and passes it. The Council also monitors city revenues and expenditures.

Not really. The Council in NOLA has substantially less power than what most people know

They opposed her multiple times on spending issues and Latoya sued and won.

Latoya was term limited out. She didn't and couldn't run it again, and Moreno is pretty smart.

I do not love her politics, but I have met her, and she is shrewd and pretty smart.

The math seems to be $103MM vs $144MM over 9 years.

Not sure if the amount is inflation adjusted but that isn't that bad a deal.

Losing $41 million (33% of potential earnings) because NO city government can't manage it's finances properly is "not a bad deal"?

The only way it makes sense is if the city would take the money, invest it and not touch it for ten years as it grew. That way you would have more money than you would if you just collected it every year.

If someone offered to pay me $103 dollar today instead of $143 in 4 years would take that deal.
