While the Mayor proposes the budget, the Council reviews, amends, and passes it. The Council also monitors city revenues and expenditures.
Under the city charter, the council has little authority to monitor.
It’s a crazy situation but again, the city charter gives almost emperor lime power to the mayor.

Ok… right now she’s trying to save money and repair lights, not exactly true believer stuff..

Not necessarily. If the PV was equal to the payment it would be a coin flip decision for Harrahs (that’s assuming the interest rate used is equal to Harrah’s cost of borrowing or opportunity costs, depending which is higher). Throw in some permitting leniency and you’ve got a deal.
I think Caesars is in some financial troubles as the Vegas market has been cooling and getting saturated. I recall Tillman Fertitta was exploring to buy up Caesars because of the debt.

Its fine to take the lump sum if she reduces the budget built on those future payments. But will that actually happen? Also? What happens down the line if she doesnt do it is the real question.

Of course the city will probably mess it up
Probably the biggest reason TPG is going straight to the source of the income and bypassing dealing with corrupt bureaucrats (current & future) and a broke city government for repayment of what is basically a loan backed by collateral and paid back with interest by pre-agreed upon garnishment of wages from that collateral. It no longer matters if the city doesn’t cut enough to cover existing debt or this loss of revenue.

Can we just arrest Latoya already.
Lmao you think this is the Compton hood rat’s fault? This has been coming for decades. This is what happens when you have Marxist democrats rule for a hundred years. Taxpayers left and they just keep spending

To be fair to Helena, she doesn't have a lot of good options. She has inherited one of the worst situations imaginable
What a crock of shite. She’s been on the council for how long??? This is definitely on her as well as all the corrupt politicians we’ve had for decades.
And she does have an option. She could get bailed out by the state BUT that would include allowing an audit which would put most of her and her fellow democrats in jail
