Latoya was term limited out. She didn't and couldn't run it again, and Moreno is pretty smart. I do not love her politics, but I have met her, and she is shrewd and pretty smart.

She was in the right place at the right time, if that happened naturally or not is a different story. She was all over SE Louisiana local TV for a long time, so it shouldn’t come as as a surprise that’s she’s elected to replace yet another mayor from NO that’s probably going to go to federal prison. On a personal level, hopefully I’m wrong when it comes to her, but I’m not sorry that I question everything that comes out of NO or BR when it comes to politics.

I remember people on this board, self included, warning about Helena being way more progressive and dangerous than Teedy. With Teedy you were getting a corrupt dumbass. Helena is smart and calculated.

Idiot

Not really. She’s been left with a shite sammich and her funding options are severely limited, not because of her doing, but the decades of mismanagement.

She’s in a really tough spot.

The city should take that $103 million and put it on black.

was there for a wedding, I think we got the most airline miles, points, whatever ther're called, from that one, it wasn't bad, we've also used the Le Meridien a few blocks away, and the Sonesta, I honestly don't know where they stay in Nola anymore, always downtown if it's sort of a lengthy layover

Helena was on the city council! Total incompetence by Helena and the city council to not know what was going on with city budgets, etc.

Helena is well apprised of what the previous disaster did, trust me.

Helena and Latoya aren’t exactly on speaking terms.

A lot of people crapping on this decision, but with a city over 200 million in debt, what other options are better? The percentages aren’t nearly as bad as it could have been. Of course the city will probably mess it up but on paper given the circumstances it’s a good loan

See if Caesars would allow it to be recorded or streamed live.

Reminds me of South Park.

Yes, the Democrat mantra. No permanent solutions.

What’s the present value of the rent payments that they would pay over the next 10 years? It must be significantly higher than what the upfront payment would be or else Caesar’s wouldn’t do it.

Not necessarily. If the PV was equal to the payment it would be a coin flip decision for Harrahs (that’s assuming the interest rate used is equal to Harrah’s cost of borrowing or opportunity costs, depending which is higher). Throw in some permitting leniency and you’ve got a deal.
