BCBS just sent me my 2018 health insurance premium renewal notice. These greedy bastards want $3100 a month and when you factor in total paid premium and deductible that I will have to pay for 2018 it would equal $43,000 before the insurance company picks up dollar one.

This is so fricking ridiculous it defies logic.

we are approaching the point where people will not pay it simply because they cannot afford it

I am guessing that is NOT employer provided insurance.

Mine went from $1400 in 2016 to $2400 in 2017. I had to change plans and raise my deductible to keep it under $2,000.

Like you, my 2018 rate is over $3,000... time to scrap that shite and go with an HSA

This is exactly where I'm at. I can self-insure for $43k a year.

Used to be that the poor weren't able to afford medical care. Now it's the middle class that can't afford it. That's called progress!

If you would just let the government provide and decide every aspect of your health insurance you wouldn't have a problem.

I think you still have to carry a policy with a HSA, and can't open one without insurance. You will still have to pay for an outrageously high priced policy with your HSA.

No, it's self employed middle class that can't afford it.

I pay 70 a month for 0 deductible in network. UHC Enhanced.

Yep. I pay $500 a month through my wife's work for myself(self employed)(Blue Cross )I looked on the exchange and I can't get near the coverage I have for that.
I still have $3000 deduct , but only 25 doctor, 35 specialist, 300 er copays.

I have friends in my situation who claim losses financially to get on the exchange with discount.

At some point all these "employee provided" policies will stop based on price alone. Then what? Well.....Welcome to the bend over and get fricked line.

You are correct. The one physician I have with an HSA still pays $1400/mth for himself/wife/kids. Huge deductible with it to.

Wife and kids are staying on my BCBS plan. I am getting on a plan with Humana that is written for major medical only. I believe it gives 3 Dr. visits per year with a $60.00 copay. I'll have to reread it though.

The good news is that HSAs are tax exempt and investable.

Well trump got rid of government healthcare subsidies which most people qualify for to some capacity. What do you expect?

IMO, this will never be “the greatest country in the world” without “free” healthcare. Canadians and British pay healthcare through taxes. It’s not that far fetched and private companies wouldn’t be able to rape the consumer so easily. I’m not a socialist.
