Nothing more than rec level as a player but several as a coach. (State HS and AAU nationals)

Very proud to have played on a State Championship football team. Played every single offensive down my Senior year as we went 15 - 0, still to this day the only state title in the school’s now 120 years or so history. AA classification in GA in the ‘90’s. Really cool thing to have been a part of.

I won a cub scouts model car racing championship. It’s my claim to fame.

The athletic gene skipped a generation with me, but my mom was a track champ. Still holds state records in SD, mainly because the events were discontinued. I got to accept an award on her behalf a few years ago, that was pretty cool.

quote:

XXX came to University of Jamestown in the fall of 1977 and immediately made an impact, setting records as a freshman in the 100 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, 100 yard dash, and the 220 yard dash. The Java, SD native would go on to be one of the greatest runners in the history of Jimmie Women’s Track and one of its first stars. At the time of her graduation, XXX owned records in the 50 yard dash, 60 yard dash, 50 yard hurdles, 60 yard hurdles, 400 meters, 440 yards, Mile Relay, 4 x 146 yard Relay, 100 yards, 100 meters, 100 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, 200 meters, and the 220 yards.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure I would still dominate the SYFA U13 league.

Pinewood Derby, 1986.
Dominated Pack races and took home the Council trophy. The secret to success was cheating. I didn’t use the kit.

I thought it would be special until after it happened.

Maybe it was being surrounded by people who continued to make a bigger deal of it than I was, but it started to seem shallow and much less significant than we were making it out to be very quickly. Celebrating a minor sports championship that’s not something along the scale of a Super Bowl just seemed lame/sad to me. It could have also been seeing the Al Bundy character celebrating his 4 touchdowns in a game well into his adulthood that caused me to minimize any high school or college achievement.

Maybe I’m just wired different, but throughout my career I have never been the type to display trophies or any type of symbols for achievement. In my office, there’s just some nostalgic images of Louisiana and family.

Trophies, plaques, and degrees are all in a closet in a different state. Maybe it’s false humility, but If/when there’s a comparable work achievement, my preference is to give credit to others and thank others for letting me ride their coat tails.

Seriously though, me and my buddies won our intramural football league 2 years in a row, and nearly won a 3rd.

I was on the team that went undefeated for three years in city league football for 6-8th graders. I was one of the only white kids and about 10 of the kids I played with eventually played at grambling and southern.

It was a bunch of fun.

Not sure if you consider it a sport, but we were the only marching band to score straight 1's (1 is the highest score) at the 1996 Louisiana Showcase at Cajun Field. So that made us defacto state champs.

My last year playing little league at 13 yrs old we only won a single game in the regular season. Ended up winning 4 straight in the playoffs to make the championship game. We got dusted badly by the champs.

Sounding a bit like Alabama football with a defacto championship...
