When we tossed our last set of house keys to our house in the French Quarter off of the High Rise as we drove the moving truck out of New Orleans.

No joke. When I hit 40, it was like a switch flipped. Probably for the best.

I lost the desire to get drunk a long time ago.

I still enjoy sipping on a drink, especially while cooking, but I rarely, if ever, drink more than 2 of anything these days. I may get drunk like once a year.

The hangover just isn't worth it.

and it's never planned. Gone are the days of "I can't wait for the weekend so I can get loaded" or stocking up for something.

I don’t know if this is random but I started having massive, flu like hangovers from drinking small amounts(1-2 drinks)of alcohol. I drank a little here and there for about a year after the hangovers started and always had the same issues so I stopped drinking completely.

Amazing how many of you still haven't learned to drink a lot of water while and after drinking to keep from getting hangovers.

Im 40, drink 5-10 beers a night and still feel great the next morning. Water works wonders.

I often will go weeks without a drink. Sometimes I feel like it, sometimes I dont.

I’m 28 and this started for me about a year ago. It was a combination of blowing my weekends because I was so hungover and a realization that alcohol made me and Mrs Cotten either fight or frick and it was becoming more of the first.

I’ll still have a beer or two after yard work or a long day of working outside, but I typically only drink on the weekends now.

Edit: We still hit the cart every night before bed, we call it our “bedtime bowl”. No hangovers, and gets Mrs Cotten just as if not more frisky than Alc. I’ll take it where I can get it.

Yep. Quit feeling good out of the blue and I haven’t drank in 2 years. It isn’t hard when you get no benefit and have to deal with the anxiety/hangovers/etc

I had tapered off right before the China virus hit, then had a few on and off during the siege. Don’t really have much of a desire anymore now, I think no tailgating, real social gathering, etc. have been a big factor. We are just not doing most of the things we did where we would drink.

You are absolutely correct. I do this. For 2 beers. Then it sort of slips my mind and a 3rd glass of water just sits until the ice melts.

Not yet, but at 34, I've definitely found my limit and stick to that.

Having babies in the house did this to me. Never know when you will get pulled out of bed at 4:00 am. Once they are older I'm sure I'll get back to some sort of routine. But for now, I'm not chancing it unless I am guaranteed uninterrupted sleep.

My desire to get drunk ended on 7/5/19.

The night before, I put down six Holy Roller IPAs and then took a 2oz shot of bourbon.

Hadn't had anything to eat and didn't drink water for several hours prior to drinking that.

NEVER. AGAIN.

Yes

I wanted nothing to do with alcohol during and after covid - all I wanted was water and Gatorade.

Took a couple of months after for there to be. desire for even a beer.

I'm on that same streak. Haven't drank since New Years. Went on a roadtrip right before New Year's and had a bit of a bender. Felt disgusted and wanted to give it a go. Was going to drink for my birthday on January 8th but caught a case of the WuFlu so stayed sober.

Either way, 12 days in and haven't felt a desire to toss one back yet.
