Had it happen to me for the first time last night and it really freaked me out.

Woke up and thought that somebody was holding me down under the covers. It felt like I was in a straight jacket. I couldn't move or move my head to look at down at what was going on. Seemed like I was struggling for a few minutes before I thought to holler for one of my dogs. When he ran into the room growling I was able to sit up and see that nobody was there and nothing was actually holding me down.

I don't usually sleep on my back or under covers, that's the only thing different I was doing than how I normally sleep.

Tell your boyfriend to knock it off.

It used to happen to me, always when I was coming off a hang over or otherwise sleep deprived. Before I realized what was happening I thought my house was legitimately haunted-- I would see ghosts of terrifying children over my bed or the scary lady from The Conjuring.

Once I learned about why and how it happens it just became an amusing annoyance.

Yep. Had my 1st episode ever about 6 months ago and had another 2 days ago. Pretty freaky, but I had read about them so I kind of knew what was happening and just tried to relax until it passed.

I did once and it freaked me out. Took a few days to shake it. Didn’t want to go to sleep.

Had it all the damn time and sometimes sleeping freaked me out to the point that I couldnt fall asleep on account of anticipating sleep paralysis.
CPAP ended it. Was a side affect of the apnea/lack of being able to breathe.

Years ago it would happen once or twice a month. Still happens on occasion, but you get accustomed to it

Can't seem to go a single year without experiencing it at least once these days.

Yep happens just like that. Usually only when I’m on my back. Happened more in college for some reason.

Had a visiting friend walk into my room to look through his luggage when I was taking a nap and I could hear somebody rummaging around but could not open my eyes or turn over to see who it was. It was terrifying once I realized I was stuck.

Another time I “woke up” from a nap a dozen times, every time not really waking up. As I started realizing each “waking” was not really a real state, I started getting frantic and trying to pinch myself to prove whether I was really up or not. One of the fake wakeups I actually dreamed I woke up, ran outside, talked to somebody to confirm I was awake, then went to class, then I woke up again in my bed. When I finally did wake up, it took me at least 20 minutes before I actually believed my roommate telling me that I was awake.

I would have said screw it that point and just pissed the bed

When I was younger. There was a trigger that would happen in my dreams, my dreams would start to skip, and then I'm locked out of my body. Eventually it lets up and I can wake up. Terrifying. Hard to control anything in your dreams, but if at any point I'm dreaming and that starts...I'm rocketing up from a dead sleep to keep from getting locked in the upside down.

It use to happen to me a few times a year but it hasn’t happened the past two years.

Every time I was lying facedown in the pillow and thought I was going to suffocate. When I finally would snap out of it, I would gasp for air very loudly and frequently. It was scary as shite each time as I struggled to pick my head/body up to breath.

The First time my wife(then girlfriend) experienced me go through it, she woke up from me catching my breath and she freaked out when I told her this happens from time to time.

Im glad they finally stopped. Experienced it for about 7 years with it happening 4 or 5 times a year.
