Yes, first time about 8 weeks ago and my sleep is still uneasy.
I heard footsteps, sure one of my kids was next to me about to call “Mama”, but it was silent. I tried to say “who’s there”, but it was only throaty whisper. Tried to turn my head to see who was next to me and I couldn’t. I spent what seemed like 2-4 minutes trying to scream “I know you’re there” but only a muted screamed came out. My husband never woke up and I was giving my everything to scream loud enough to wake him, all the while not able to move a muscle. I couldn’t sleep for a week after, afraid next time it would be even worse; it was the most terrifying thing I’ve ever experienced. If I wake up in my back now, I still panic that it’s about to happen again.

A year or two ago I was getting it a couple times a week it seemed for a couple months. Last time I had it was maybe 2 months ago. It’s not fun but I’ve had it so often I’ve learned to not panic and eventually I’ll be able to move.

Yes. Held down, couldn’t turn. Hearing someone was speaking Latin in my ear. Absolutely terrifying trying to turn toward it and you can’t. Then suddenly, gone.

I never sleep on my back anymore because that’s when it happened. Also experience Exploding Head Syndrome. Right when falling asleep you hear a loud explosion like a wrecking ball came through the room, but nothing happened. Caused by stress.

Had it for years when I was younger. Never understood what it was until I was older.

CPAP ended it. Was a side affect of the apnea/lack of being able to breathe.

I get it all the time. Like others said, at first I was terrified and would see/ hear things or I would be face down feeling like I was going to suffocate. Now I’m very aware it’s happening and just wiggle my toes, then feet and usually snap out of it. Sometimes I can’t snap out of it and my wife hears me mumbling and she’ll wake me up.

Used to get it at least a couple of times a month when I was younger, and maybe once or twice a year now. Not a fun experience. As others have said, it is only when I sleep on my back so I make a conscious effort to sleep on my side unless I just conk out. I've also noticed it happens more frequently during times of increased stress or anxiety, so I'll use it as a signal to evaluate if any changes need to be made in my life.

I’ve had it. Terrifying.

Author Whitley Streiber (Communion) revealed that it was the aliens paralyzing you so that they could use you for their unknown purposes. (Which terrified me even more.)

Then I read his next book and realized he was a nut job.

Art Bell RIP.

Yes. Occasionally since college. I can consciously put myself into it. I don’t experience it as much as I used to, but I did have it the other night. A few months ago I had it in a dream and brought myself out of it only to find out I was actually in sleep paralysis. That will freak you out. Luckily it’s only happened twice that I can remember.

Yes. A few times. It sucks. Most messed up part was that a malevolent figure appeared to be in the room. That

I haven’t had it in a long time but I used to get sleep paralysis so much I knew what was going on when it happened and felt in control despite not being able to move.

Exactly my situation. Terrifying early on but after learning about it, I knew in the dream when it was happening. I'd mentally tell myself, Relax...just wake up...this isn't real...wake up. Then going through the process of forcing myself awake became normal. Seems like when I got good at coming out of it, it stopped happening.

I've had it several times, but still not used to it. The helplessness and paranoia is a total mindfrick.

Much more common in people with narcolepsy or sleep apnea. Norormally occurs when waking from deep, good, REM sleep. Body/mind may be over-tired.
