There were signs like that in a lot of small cities. I remember the one over Main Street in Greenville growing up

This one is unusual. I worked in Vidor at the time. Kid died on railroad track, hit by a train. Was at a party the night before, intoxicated, walked home. Next early morning hit by a train. Unusual to pass out (was the rumor) on a railroad track surrounded by big ditches, not wake up when the train sees you & is blowing the horn, then get hit & presumably die. Was he dead before he was it? Did someone place him there? What happened when he left the party? Probably never know. Thing was he was very popular among his HS classmates. But Vidor does have done backwoods people still roaming around.

He was one of the most popular kids in the school, as with most of the black students we had when I was growing up.

But you’re right, like I said we still have some of the trash lying around - same as a lot of other southern small towns.

I just consider those towns part of Louisiana tbh.

This. Vidor is very racist. When they put a fence up around section 8 housing in Vidor many of the residents started calling it their "zoo"

All I know is my grandparents that lived in DeRidder LOVED a BBQ joint in Jasper and we had to go every time we visited.
