I lived in Jacksonville in 1990 and every morning when I'd go get in my car it smelled like someone boiling cabbage and dirty diapers.

There is a small town about 50 miles where I live and the few times I've driven through it I am shocked how strong the odor is.

Yep...two different ones, actually. Pineville, La and West Monroe, LA.

No, but I've driven up to Bogalusa a couple times. Does not smell good.

No, but Jonesboro smells like shite.
And so does Oakdale.

My dad used to say it smelled like pay day.
He worked for IP for 48 years. Started in the mill at Natchez. My mom's dad retired from that mill.
Most of the Natchez folks, and all of the Bastrop people, wish their town stunk again. Hard times since the mills closed. The mill closing in Natchez may have killed off the Klan in that area too.
Recently met a guy who grew up in Bastrop, married after college, and moved away. His wife said the first time they came back for Christmas, he asked what that terrible smell was. He said he just must not have noticed it before because it was all he'd known. I didn't question him, but I was born in Natchez, and knew both it, and Vidalia stunk, from the day I was born.

I can think of a few who wouldn’t want the mill back, then.

Yep, town I grew up in was near a paper mill and a sugar mill. When the wind blew towards my house, it was horrible.

I live about 30 miles away from one. When the wind is blowing right you can smell it. Not a terrible smell once you get used to it.

If you’re not used to it I guess it stinks. It reminds me of visiting relatives for Christmas as a kid. It’s a smell but I don’t think it’s bad.

Everybody in Louisiana lives downwind of something unpleasant.

Not as bad as the Purina factory.
Flour mills can be bad, too.
