I was born and raised in Bogalusa just a short distance from the paper mill. Never noticed any unusual smell.

No, but I was looking at some land in Mississippi up around Poplarville and the first couple times I went there it was real nice, then one day I got a whiff of a gawd awful smell and found out there was a hog farm up the road about 1/4 mile and that did it for me. No way I'd live that close to a hog or chicken farm.

I have worked in just about everyone from Georgia to Texas, and after awhile you don't even pay attention to the smell. Now my wife kindly request I wash all my clothes at the hotel before coming home so she doesn't have to smell it. Just don't leave a pair of work boots locked in your truck in the summer sun after working a shutdown cause that smell does not come out.

I have lived near a paper mill and yes they are horrible.
I now live near a huge bakery which smells like cinnamon buns. It is the best smell in the morning.

Bastrop used to smell like a Giant dump back in the day. Does it still?

I know West Monroe does coming west on I-20 and Crossett does as well so I think Bastrop might just be stuck in the crossfire

We moved my great grandmothers house from oakdale to Gillis in the early 80’s. It took nearly 5 years to get the smell of pulp wood out of the paneling and ceiling tiles. That’s a smell that dies hard.

I did an internship at one and one you work there a while, the smell doesn't bother you. You can actually tell if they are digesting soft or hard wood by the smell. Soft wood has a sweeter odor.

What you know about the Purina factories? I just finished building a line of automation for a Georgia plant

I once had a girl tell me to kiss her where it stinks, so I drove to Bogalusa, parked in the mill parking lot, and kissed her cheek.

I know what my nose told me. I took the train into Sydney each morning for work and passed the Purina factory near the Olympic Park. If the wind was blowing our direction, it stunk.

I have, and I am grateful because it employed a lot of good dudes I know.
Someone once asked me what that nasty smell was. Knowing it was the papermill, I simply said, “smells like money to me and all the people that work there.” Not to mention the community that those workers support.

I live between 3 and work at one, Our plant converted to 100% Recycle in 92 so we don't have the smell. One of the other 2 is our sister mill and they along with the other mill are virgin pulp, meaning they use pine wood chips and have to cook them in a digester which contributes to the smell. I have been employed for 30 years at the same location.
