I can see places like Walmart or McDonald's going solely self checkout at some point, but not a store like Lowes
Went to Wally World yesterday and they had at least 8 cashiers rolling people through & it was great
Lowes has been strictly self checkout every time I have been as of late and it sucks

I love SCO and give myself the standard 10% employee discount.

It's hard to believe with today's tech you can't push your buggy through a scanner that reads all of the barcodes and in a matter of seconds tells you how much you owe.
Amazon tried this for a while but it was recently revealed that it was fake and people in India were watching and doing the work rather than the machines.
Amazon Fresh kills "Just Walk Out" shopping tech - it never really worked

Self checkout is great. I rarely need someone to checkout my stuff unless I have enough items…

If you have to ask me to fricking pay more no matter the amount the answer is No. Dumbest thing ever and why I hate stores in general.

I prefer it b/c I don't have to interact w/another human being & can have a completely solitary, technological, soulless experience
Just skip the brick and mortar altogether and order online if you hate human interaction.

It really is a beautiful scam. You round up, they collect the money, they make the donation to the charity, they take the tax exemption, lol.
Well, they will really love how that story ends when they get a nasty tax bill and fraud investigation. It is illegal to do what you have suggested Lowe’s is doing. Point of sale donations cannot be written off. Round-up donations are not business income or expenses. The company is just acting as a collecting and holding agent for the charity.
Customers would be the ones able to take a tax deduction, if they wanted, by using their receipt with the donation amount as proof. After the Trump Tax cuts of 2017, way fewer people itemize (approximately only 1/3 as many as before), so charitable donations are less likely to be deducted for point of sale donations either.
If you have proof Lowe’s is doing that I’d suggest you become a whistleblower and collect some hefty portion of what the government gets back from them. You are entitled to at least 15% and as much as 30% of collections for any recovery of $2 million or more. Congrats!

wanna “round up”
Hate this, too.
Hey, CVS, I'm here to buy toothpaste and whatever female product my wife texted me. I don't want to send $0.13 to a type 2 diabeetus org. I just want the Colgate and the maxi-thins and then I'll go quietly into the night. Deal?

I sometimes give myself a discount if I’m made to use self checkout. Makes sense to me, as the store is forcing me to work for them by scanning my own goods.

the tip options on the screen started at 25% - What the hell are we doing here?
I had a new one the other day at a BBQ joint where you order at the counter and they give you a number and a cup and bring it to your table. It had an option for 100%.

Everything organic is suddenly not organic at Kroger
There is no standard for what is organic or not. Anything can be labeled as such.

self checkout
I never liked the idea of this, but my wife and I had a basket full of groceries at a Walmart super center and decided to try it out. It went well and they had a chick there to help or answer any questions. I fretted about nothing I guess.

I guess I felt like spoiling myself the other day so I went through the regular line with a cashier. After the cashier finished ringing up the lady in front of me, out comes the flyer from the newspaper, and the woman goes all the way down the list, item by item having the poor teenage cashier go through and reduce prices and add discounts for almost everything. Even things she was wrong on like a coupon she had for Kellog's but the cereal she had was Post (which took a call for a manager who came over and he honored the coupon anyways).
She finally gets her total, and sure enough, waits until then to even start looking for her checkbook (because of course she still uses checks) in her giant hobo purse.
They opened another register by then but everyone behind me jumped over before I could because it was too much trouble for that cashier to say "I can help the next person."
It was a great reminder of life before self-checkout.

where is the savings for the customer if we have to check ourselves out?
It's simple economics. That self checkout means that there is one less person on payroll for Lowes to pay. You see the savings by keeping the prices fair.
