re: Has there been a shift in support for law enforcement?

i have had the same opinion i always had.
the force is a necessity. it always has been. what else will keep the criminal element in check, especially in this age where the courts favor them in the citizen vs criminal cases.
however, since the 50's they have gotten less and less support, some warranted some not. Because of this its gone from a respectable decent paying profession to a shite paying job with no respect. This will only attract the dimmest of applicants. this has gone on long enough that the vast majority of the force is incompetent nitwits.
how do we fix this? Sincerely support the cops but not blindly, and turn it back into a real profession. practically how to do this? frick all if a know.

It’s getting harder for departments to find quality candidates. People just don’t want to get into Law Enforcement and good people are leaving. It’s a real problem. Some towns like Bastrop only have enough manpower to run day shifts from 6-6. They pay Morehouse SO to patrol at night.
I know a bunch of good cops that worked BRPD but Murphy Paul’s sorry fricking arse ran them off because they weren’t yes men and wanted to actually do real police work.
The urban cities are probably lost forever. They are too far gone and not coming back.

they focus on harassing and generating revenue from law abiding citizens (get your inspection sticker, don’t let insurance lapse, pee in public while drunk and be arrested and register as a sec offender, don’t have some weed in your pocket or pay the price, etc)
meanwhile not allowed to proactively patrol and stop violent crimes, illegals can drive trucks with fake plates and no insurance and be let go with nothing, homeless people can shoot drugs and shite wherever they want and no repercussions because they won’t show up for court or have any consequences anyway
this causes such a breakdown of societal code and leads to feelings you have in the OP…we have less cops, the cops we do have are less qualified, and they have no support from either side because politicians and the media has turned minorities against them and law abiding citizens feel harassed and think it’s a double standard
Yeah, this is a solid response. I think you have summed up a lot of what the problem is.... Officers of less caliber, taking the easy wins where they can. They are frustrated. Regular people tired of having their frustrations taken out on them. The cycle repeats

I think the larger issue is that the few truly bad apples have really ruined the barrel. And when you have organizations like the FOP who refuse to agree to accountability for bad policing and bail out those bad apples, there’s no incentive to be a decent officer unless you have that internal drive.
I mean I look at the millions of dollars that legitimately bad policing has cost tax payers in my area (LMPD is a shite show) and people are just fed up with the utter lack of accountability for individuals in the force.
I also have no problem arguing that lowered standards for officers and poor pay (despite a good pension) has hurt things. But that goes for a lot of public servants.

You typed it up in a lot fewer words than I did

yeah. it sucks that we have ran off the good cops pretty much. there are still some out there, but its not a fun job.

Im 37 and have never needed them in my life. We used to have some cool cops in our town, now you have these tatted up nerds that act like they were door kickers in Fallujah.

Have had several police officers put in applications with the Sales Department at my company. We are in a military / law enforcement aligned market. When asked they all say they are looking to get out of LE because it's thankless and they constantly worry they are going to be put in a position of having to use force and then getting pilloried by some liberal DA.
And these are the good ones that are looking to jump ship. The only ones staying are the ones with no other prospects. That's scary.

I question my job daily. I have never, nor would i ever, treat people the way some officers/detectives treat people these days. My days are numbered. And i cant say that i am NOT sad because ALOT of people are done wrong.

There’s a lot of legit criticism of police.
It’s the whole narrative that they are out there hunting blacks that is bullshite. If anything they handle them with kid gloves because they don’t want to be the next viral story on the national news and have themselves and their families harassed for years to come.

It sounds like you're what it's supposed to be. Too bad there aren't enough of those like you that can make a real change. Thank you.

I have an acquaintance that was put in that exact situation. Left the force in Louisiana all together.

I don’t envy the job but that’s not a permission slip to be assholes which a few to many have become over the last 30 years.

There's a lot more than a 'few bad apples".

I definitely hate CERTAIN departments, especially those podunk louisiana departments that would rather hand out tickers than decrease crime in their communities.
Louisiana would have the lowest crime rate in the nation if these local cops would focus on ACTUAL crime rather than giving innocent people $200 dollar tickets for go 5 over in an area with no signs.

This was the final nail in my back the blue coffin. I let my phone run out of juice and needed to call for an Uber, so I plugged my phone into a wall near the non-working light rail. Denver police screamed at me while a homeless guy had an entire set up plugged in. When I pointed at him, cops got even more mad and asked if I wanted to go to jail.
Absolute trash, seeing an actual tax paying citizen needing help, but threatening instead. Until proven different, more cops are Uvalde than Nashville in my mind.

Be careful going into WBR from the new bridge. Had some peaked in HS jerkoff stop me the other day for a dirty license plate cover. Didn't ticket me but wasted 30 mins of my day. Their cars don't even look like real cruisers, looks like a park ranger car. Dude was dumb as a rock. Typical mid 30's inflated ego shithead who's cycled off and on of low quality steroids since his early 20's, divorcee shitbag who lost his wife and kid to anger issues type of shitbag.
