They are given power over me, and there's little I can do about it. So, I don't trust them and I don't want them around me.

I suggest you go to Officer Down Memorial Page and watch how fast some officers have been killed.

Completely irrelevant. Link to all the bad shots that they have made.

I can and I will. You bootlickers hate Americans having rights, but I still have the 1st Amendment that lets me freely critique the armed, unintelligent, goons of a mostly corrupt government.

7 or 8 years ago I was driving a truck down the highway when I felt a tire go down.
That old truck had a jack, 4-way and a full size spare on board so I wasn't too concerned when I pulled off the shoulder.
I no more got the floor jack out of the bed when a county cop pulled up behind me. I thanked him when he walked up for running blocker, as the tire needing changed was on the drivers side.
He asked for my drivers license, which I gave him without any concern.
He brought it back, said have a nice day and drove off. Left me there to finish changing the tire on the side of a highway.
I shook my head and thought to myself- "serve and protect"?

I think State police just depends on which individual officer you deal with. There's definitely a lot of dudes who are on power trips there but a lot of them are guys just doing their jobs.

I mean the dirty politics of the organization at a whole.

The old good cop, bad cop routine. Honestly, it’s a good thing to have a voice of reason in any altercation. People let their feelings get the better of them. Cops are no different.

I think small town police are actually the worst.

They are. I meant to add that. They work for underfunded police departments so they have minimum training. The pay is shite so they have to take anyone willing to work for them.

In my parish there are 5 municipalities with their own police department. Four of them likely has no more than 3... four at the most.. police officers. One of them might only have two.

The parish gives these departments their budget every year. That includes paying a chief of police, the officers, an office worker, equipment, etc. The funny thing is that their are parish deputies all through the parish and they are near these areas. Something happens, because they are in their cars already, they can get their faster than the city police, but the parish deputies are only suppose to get involved in issues in city limits, if they need more help than they have the man power for.

If something happens near the parish/city line and a parish deputy is there and in control of the situation, the police chiefs think that's the sheriff's office trying to take control of their area. It becomes a shite show.

If they got rid of the police departments in the municipalities and give that money to the sheriffs office, that could allow them to add new officers (who are better trained) and give their officers a bump in pay which could help attract better officers. And the sheriffs department handle issues in those areas.

Im sure every state have ways they could reorganize their law enforcement throughout the whole state, but its government, they never do anything the practical way.

Of course your bigger cities needs their own police force, but the small town police. Most of the calls they deal with are bullshite calls, they don't have much experience handling anything that doesn't happen often. When those situations come up, they are in the way more than anything. There is no need for a parish/county to have 4-5 elected chief of police, a half arse police department, etc.

I never trusted the police and never will.
But I always root for them when I'm watching cops.

Many of them were the type to be picked on in their younger years, and turn to police work for the gun and the badge and the feelings of power that come with it

It's especially true these days as most of the "good" cops have left the job and recruitment is scrapping the bottom of the barrel for qualified applicants.

I grew up in small town and my uncle was super close with a bunch of the "city" PD and local state troopers. They were respectable and at least reasonably intelligent guys. Or at least that's how they came off to me as a 10-14 year old.

Now that I'm an adult, the people I am seeing become police are just a completely different quality of men. Obviously not in a good way.

eta: geography and demographics are a big factor though. I'm sure the small town PD I'm referring to gets better candidates because there's literally no chance they ever get smoked by some triple felon drug dealer on the side of the highway or whatever.

Anyone who is against cops wholeheartedly has something to hide, end of story.

I live in the sticks and don't have neighbors nearby.

I'm more likely to be a victim of police state overreach than I am to fall victim to a crime perpetrated by another citizen.

Sure, there are laws I don't abide by and laws that I never will follow such as 2A restrictions. If I'm on my land and I'm not infringing on anyone else's rights, I don't care what laws say.

Agree with OP . Sure it takes a certain person to be a cop and I’m glad we have them to deal with the thugs . However it rubs me the wrong way when we have 2 or 3 cops set up at neighborhood stop signs trying to catch law abiding housewives for some BS like inspection stickers .

a lot of people live in places where thuggery doesn't really exist and the cops still treat people like they're pieces of shite/potential terrorists. that's a big part of the problem.

yea no...I mean I'm grateful for them to an extent...they are a needed emergency service. BUT most of the time I see/interact with them they are acting as nothing more than a tax collecting nuisance.

Cops should exist like FD exists...come when called and needed, with the exception of being more present in high crime areas

First, I made one comment and it wasn't meant to be funny.

Speed traps are a fact of life. If you're local you know where they are. If you're not, it sucks.

To say you no longer back the blue over it is bullshite. Take the L, move on and stop whining about it.

There are far more good cops than bad ones.

You just only hear about the bad ones in the news, rarely do the good ones make the news.
