Has anyone’s workplace switched to WFH permanently?

My office has taken advantage and will make this work from home a permanent solution. Kinda torn on this honestly. Anyone else in similar situations?

I'm curious to see how my company handles this going forward. We are a software company and there is no real need for an office. I do think you lose a sense of camaraderie without the office.

I'd love if my office allowed WFH. Work from home when you want, come in when you want. As long as your productivity doesn't suffer.

there is no reason for most people that work on a computer to go into the office everyday.

I know many people working at CenturyLink who will remain at home.

Not permanently, but there is probably going to be a fairly liberal policy allowing it going forward. Especially since prior to this we were having space issues in many of our offices across the country.

I'm only in the office two days a week now, and that will likely become permanent since our office is one of the ones with space issues.

We are planning to cut down to only a couple shared offices for people that want to go in, but mostly will be WFH permanently.

Not commuting is huge, but ideally I'd like to go into the office 2-3 days a week and WFH the other days, just to change environment.

Why would they allow both? If they are going to allow work from home wouldn’t the reason be to close down the office or at least downsize it for cost saving?

My wife's is staying WFH until September. She was already WFH 4/5 days a week and just went in for meetings, or if she wanted to socialize with coworkers and let our dog run around with other dogs.

WFH is really fine for some people, and not for others. My mom is WFH and she called me crying when they extended the stay at home order.

A few of the head honchos at the plant I work at are considering scrapping the idea to build a new office building onsite.
There are discussions about a number of personnel that have been and will continue to work from home so the need for multiple office spaces is not going to be needed.

My main issue is me and my wife work for the same company and are both now working from home. I legit just don’t have the space in my home to support 2 people working from home. I will now have to spend thousands to be able to comfortably work from home now

Our office is trying to provide options for people in shitty situations like kids with no daycare or school etc. permanent WFH will be an option but I do better at the office.

I'm going to push my client pretty hard when I come back

It would save them the $600/week vehicle charge, plus I wouldn't have to drive the hour there and back every day

It would be a win/win for everyone

I doubt they bite though...

People see WFH as a luxury currently, but over the long term it's burdens will be pushed back on to the companies, either in the form of wage increases or better benefits. Not everyone is built to be in their house for 16+ hours a day. I thought it was so cool when my wife went remote, but after a year of it I realize that it's the same thing; she's working, she's just sitting in the other room instead of a few miles down the road.

The vast majority of people still see the ability to work from home as a perk, but that would change if you are required to work from home. My wife factored into her salary negotiation when moving roles at her company that she would be allowed to work remotely all the time while still going into the office when needed/wanted.

Depends on the work. I work remotely, but I don’t “log on” from X time to Y time. I do work as it is needed and when I’m available, whether it’s 10am or 11pm. So I’m not locked in a room or something on weekdays. If I had to do that, I may as well be at the office.

I completely get this sentiment. Can one of you not work from the office? Are they completely doing away with office space?

If you don’t have kids, can you work from a coffee shop?
