BRGETTHENET,

Pull your license out of your pants (if you can find them) and sign your organ donor card.

Someone will thank me for this, probably not you.

I’m surprise the state does not charge people‘s insurance for the repairs. I know the causeway does that if you get in a wreck and mess up the pipe barrier on top of the walls on the southbound bridge.

I'm sure that's a real big problem on rural interstates.

I have a buddy that has a daughter who hit one around Jackson MS several years back. He said it kept her car from crossing over into the opposite lanes and kept a pretty bad wreck from becoming fatal.

I had a car coming straight at me and my family that was stopped by the cables. We were belted up and in an f-250 but it would not have been pretty without the cables.

Big fan.

I can actually see it being a big problem on rural interstates.

When driving through the south, even the rural interstates tend to have a nice size load of traffic on both sides. Combine that with people driving 80-90 mph, then yes, I can see the barriers saving lives.

I used to joke about those things, but they fricking work as designed. Saved me and my family from being wiped out by a Dodge pickup that had lost control westbound on I10 between US 61 and La. 641 (Grammercy) a few years back.

Saw the guy start to lose it, he fishtailed and went into the median bee-lining straight at us. Hit the cables and it IMMEDIATELY turned him and shredded his driver's side (especially, front quarterpanel/wheel well).

Became a big believer in them after that.

It really costs around $100 k a mile to install those cables? I'm a big fan of them and think they are necessary regardless but I had no idea they cost that much.

So why are they there?

To avoid having more groups of crosses representing whole families killed by some idiot losing control and crossing the median. Like we have along I-10 between Highland and 73.

Last June I was in my buddies truck pulling hid boat on I-10 at 5:30 in the morning. Rolling in the middle lane, and a jackass in a BMW hauling arse rear ends us sending the boat flying over the truck, and us into the median. We hit the cables, and went about 20 feet before we stopped. if the cables were not there we would have been heading into oncoming traffic. If you can't see their purpose you are a quite a mental midget.

Yeah, I can't possibly do anything for you for at least a half hour and that's iffy.

Maybe some positive thinking would help?

I see their purpose. Was mainly wanting feedback from people who had actually hit them. Which I got from several people, and I thank them for their reponses. I was unaware that asking questions makes one a mental midget. My bad

In 2005, I was sent through a windshield when an teenage diabetic passed out and crossed over to opposing traffic. I would have enjoyed some cables to prevent that.
