Rain has picked up again. I can still see the middle of the street, but water is starting to build up on the sides.
I have a friend about 10 miles west of me that said the rain is letting up.

The release of the water from the Barker and Addicks reservoirs is strictly to benefit the areas to the west of the Barker reservoir and north and west of the Addicks reservoir.
Buffalo bayou down stream from the reservoirs is already way higher than what would even be considered high for a flooding event. The release of water will increase the levels of Buffalo bayou down stream of the reservoirs.
The release of Addicks will begin first at 2:00 AM tonight.
The intent of the reservoirs was to prevent flooding of Downtown Houston. Now it becomes a discussion of what's more important and what should be allowed to flood. That's a whole different discussion.

I read that they are releasing water at 2 am. Why not wait for daylight so they can rescue those that need to be rescued?

holding strong still in Cypresswood (Spring).
Cypress creek is creeping close tho. 35-40 yards away . Neighborhood drains aren't taking on any more water. End of the street is knee deep and rising. We are at 109ft of elevation. Anything of value has been moved to 2nd floor. Bags packed.

If they lose control of the reservoir, a controlled release is the least of their concerns.
ETA: Plus, the release takes 12 hours to reach downtown.

The KPRC spaghetti models show this thing much farther east than what's been projected so far. Most were actually across the La border.

Here in Katy the rain has let up for about the last hour or so. I hope long enough for some of this to recede before the next wave
