No. The release is to preserve the integrity of the dam.

This last 4 hrs have never seen rain come down so hard before. We live in Copperfield and high and dry but our retention pond must be nearing capacity.

That's what I was getting at. I'm in the Heights above 11th so I'm not really concerned for myself but I have friends in Memorial near the bayou who are concerned.

They're talking about releasing 4k cfs.
Adding 4k cfs, you can use the scale on the right side to determine the water depth. Keep in mind, it is a log scale, so as the height increases, it takes much more flow to increase it another foot.
4k cfs would add 16 feet of water in Buffalo Bayou, if it was at 43 feet and a 1k cfs flow. When the flow is already at 8-9kcfs, this release won't be nearly as dramatic.
