Worst take in a while. Don't prosecute drunk drivers that kill families, they didn't intend to do it.

Drunk drivers choose to drink and drive. So bad comparison.

Oh God. This guy didn't decide to hold a baby out of a window?

A while back when the story broke, I thought he had dropped the baby overboard into the water at night. That’s just an horrific thought with no hope for rescue.

Then the video emerged and while it’s still horrible, for some reason I thought the baby hitting the ground at port was somehow better, maybe because it was sudden death.

Still, just a sad story all around.

It's sad, but at least now he's fully admitting what we already knew, that it was his fault. Sad though.

Because lawyers are gonna lawyer.

The cruise ship has deep $$ pockets. The lawyers know that. This conviction closes the door from future litigation against the cruise line.

People rely on this train of thought far too often to excuse ignorant behavior that ends in tragic consequences.

He didn't "anciently" hold the little girl up to the window. He very purposely did that. I do not doubt that he didn't intend to drop the girl but his willful actions did cause her death. Why should he go unpunished?

Much like the drunk driver didn't mean to kill anyone.

Yeah, this is definitely the cruise ship’s fault. Definitely not a money grab. #toddlerlivesmatter

And unless they stop trying to blame the cruise line, they will continue to suffer. The blame lies squarely on gramps. Now they just need to decide if forgiveness is possible.

You answered your own question

Well this kills the civil case, if it hasn’t already died.

They chose to sue and blame.

To be fair this worked out in the end, Gramps pleaded for no jail time. I don’t think anyone is to blame here everyone just played their cards. Cruise line pressed charges to prevent a lawsuit and Gramps sued because he screwed up and didn’t want to go to jail.

Very sad situation.

Fwiw, the poster above was wrong I believe. The kid wasn’t dropped overboard. He was dropped from one level of the ship down to another part of the ship.

Thats what you get when you try to falsely accuse an entity of doing something that YOU were responsible for.

Have you seen the security camera images?

The guy was horribly negligent with the little girl.
