Kemah is really nice and only 15 miles

Baytown is a suburb of Houston so I'm sure it has it's nice areas too

also if you're from Houma, then to give an idea

Garth Rd in Baytown is like a larger busier version of MLK in Houma.

several neighborhoods all along are similar in appearance to like a Broadmoor type area.

Will throw in Mont Belvieu. In Chambers Co and it's booming.

Never played it but Eagle Pointe looks like a nice course. Driving range has lights and a par 3 course is in progress.

As others have mentioned it's hard to escape the Houston gravitational traffic field.

I would choose to avoid Kemah and Seabrook, you will spend excessive time in traffic. Mont Belvieu is my number one if I HAVE to live around Houston and be close to Baytown

Exactly. You can minimize it some but you will inevitably end up in traffic at some point or another.

Mont Belvieu is worth looking at. It’s not harris county which is great IMO. It’s up and coming and in the other direction from the crowd.

People describing that part of Texas as anything other than terrible is blowing my mind. East Houston / Baytown is the worst part of Houston and Houston is the worst part of Texas. I've spent more time than I care to remember in that area, and you couldn't pay me to go back there.

Lived in Clear Lake which is close and it was my favorite place so far.

Schools are awesome (Clear Creek ISD is one of the best districts for the amount of taxes you pay), still somewhat affordable, job market is good (close to most of the plants, O&G offices in Friendswood/Katy, UH, NASA, and downtown isn't that bad of a drive if you time it correctly). Not a good location if you have to go to North Houston.

Only drawback is it's geography is a lot like south Louisiana. If another big hurricane hits Houston, you will probably get some damage and higher insurance rates.

Live anywhere your daily drive does not require you to get on I-45. It's the worst freeway in Houston (unless you consider 610 West by the Galleria a freeway) - and I mean the entire length from Galveston to Conroe is just brutal.

Up and coming isn’t good for the Houston metro. You want somewhere already established. So you can see who lives there.

I agree with the Clear Lake/Kemah/Seabrook area recommendations, but consider that is very hurricane sensitive area. You’ll probably be dealing with flooding or the threat of flooding every hurricane season.

See if Exxon offers a transit subsidy of any kind. Some businesses will fund/refund tolls. This could make a commute from a location northwest from Baytown (via Beltway 8 or Grand Parkway (99)) a bit easier.

I know some baws that work at that location but live in Summerwood, New Caney (Tavola), Huffman, and even Kingwood. The ones that live in Kingwood do it for the school system rather than the slightly less convenient drive.

Think of the commute as your time. Those locations offer a much more peaceful commute that lets you load up on podcasts, music, audiobooks, or even a cold beer during the commute to take the edge off.
