Oh, well, we'll just consult you every time the legality of a law is called into question.

I think this is a good decision. The government needs to enforce the law. Force congress to repeal the prohibition rather than just not enforcing the law.

Definitely not doing that, wouldn't want to damage my lungs from the pot. What if I just do 4 whippets?

Congress on the other hand, who could actually change the law, should be feeling serious heat on this.
As they should. But those old conservatives won't do shite.

Didn't Obama go after more dispensaries than Bush?

I blame sessions for being a dumbass

What this will do is speed up the inevitable SCOTUS case that will find in favor of the states.

Why rescind it if no one wants to use that power?
I think Sessions is a true believer that marijuana is all sorts of bad but he's also a politician at heart and wants to avoid the huge blowback of aggressive enforcement. So when an attorney or two goes after legal growers, the administration has a degree of separation to hide behind.
Congress needs to make possession/growing legal at the federal level and just leave this up to the states.

And furthermore, to all our progressive fiends, if it were not for he massive power liberals have concentrated in the central government at the expense of States Rights, the issue of pot being illegal now would not even be an issue.
Nixon was the president when marijuana was added to the list of controlled substances
quote:
While the Marijuana Tax Act was ruled unconstitutional years later, it was replaced with the Controlled Substances Act in the 1970’s which established Schedules for ranking substances according to their dangerousness and potential for addiction. Cannabis was placed in the most restrictive category, Schedule I, supposedly as a place holder while then President Nixon commissioned a report to give a final recommendation.
The Schafer Commission, as it was called, declared that marijuana should not be in Schedule I and even doubted its designation as an illicit substance. However, Nixon discounted the recommendations of the commission, and marijuana remains a Schedule I substance.

Not just old conservatives. Any member on the big pharma, big alcohol, prison industrial complex, etc gravy train lobbies as well.

No. Jeff Sessions doesn’t want to enforce the law, he wants to get as many laws passed as possible and piss on the constitution and Bill of Rights. In fact his War on Drugs isn’t the thing that pisses me off the most, but his stance on Civil Forfeiture. That is completely unconstitutional and Sessions should be ashamed of himself.

When he would have never done had that power not already been given to the central government.

I think this all leads back to California and their sanctuary state law.
Whether you agree with weed being legal or not, its still illegal at the federal level and federal law supersedes state law. Obama administration decided to turn a blind eye to states that passed their own legal marijuana laws that contradicted existing federal law.
But now you have California pushing things further with their sanctuary state law that basically gives a big middle finger to ICE and federal immigration law. So now Sessions is bringing the hammer down on these states making up their own laws that run contradictory to existing federal law. Legal marijuana isn't dead, its just going to need Congress to legalize it at the federal level.

Money is good and all but a pot conviction can ruin someone's life.
It's a damn shame it's illegal.

This is more to do with the Trump Admin's efforts to fully stamp out any and all Obama Era policies.
Sessions will announce a new policy that will still support the states deciding a majijuana policy that works for them.

i'm really having a hard time fathoming how Trump could make this pick. Now, if he fires him soon, I think it will vindicate the strategy--trump tried to get in a law-and-order guy to clean up some messes, but he (Trump) moved to the middle once it became clear he (Sessions) was a redneck goatfricking, backward-arse authoritarian who doesn't mesh with the young (as in, under 80) people who put Trump in office.
Trump is a freaking New Yorker. This is backwoods shite at this point. And not even good backwoods shite. My ancestors founded a huge chunk of the area just west of where that asshat is from, but they were all freedom-loving, live and let live types. I've even read some good bootlegging stories. Point being, being from Selma is no excuse.
I hope Trump takes care of biz on this won (not high--have cold--lol ONE), stat.

But don't blame "progressives" for the power of the central gov't.
BOTH parties seek to increase the power of the central gov't when they are in charge and then do everything they can to limit the power once power is ceded back to the opposing side
Republicans passed the PATRIOT Act
Democrats passed Obamacare
It unfortunately cuts both ways
