On Wednesday, authorities in Sacramento announced that they had arrested a former police officer after matching “discarded DNA evidence from his Sacramento area home with genetic evidence” from the crimes committed by the Golden State Killer, reports CNN.

Reading that one of his daughters was arrested for drugs and that somehow turned into the DNA match.
Boy, that's got to piss a professional serial killer off. Been raping, killing and ransacking homes for 45 years and then the War on Drugs finally solves a real crime. D'OH!

But what would lead to getting a DNA sample from a drug arrest? That doesn't make much sense.
In some states, every person convicted of a crime gets swabbed for DNA. Perhaps CA is one of them.

I bet the guy is actually happy he was arrested. Now he can finally get the credit, he probably feels he deserves, for his life's work. He is 72, so what does he care if he spends 15 years on death row. Fascinating story.
First thing I thought. Now he’s famous

Makes total sense depending on scenario and if it was felony drug offense DNA is automatic.

Did they confirm that he was Mr. Cruel? Hadn't heard that part.

No. Everything points away from that . The timeline fits and the MO kinda sorta fits and I think they investigated but that’s it. Mr Cruel was by all reports at the time, an Aussie. Now if we learn that this tiny- dicked freak moved there in 86 that might make sense but nobody has reported that.

I saw a map that showed his house is located very close to all his crime scenes in the Sacramento area.
He probably enjoyed riding by them. Might have even kept tabs on his victims.

Maybe the daughter knew or suspected something and she made a deal.

Well frick that big brother shite. Imagine getting picked up for something petty as a teenager and forever having yout DNA logged over something stupid. DNA tests aren't 100% infallible, innocent people have been wrongly imprisoned because of DNA tests before. They shouldn't take your DNA unless they need it.

What about fingerprints?

I think that’s because they just decided to re air it at the last minute because of the capture. They have been advertising it on the channel all day though

That's what I thought. OP needs to be changed.

In the documentary series they said basically all kind of DNA legislation was passed specifically for him. I think it included all felonies in CA, trading databases with Oregon and others and getting DNA from dead prisoners to see if he had died.

After I watched the documentary on the Eastside Rapist, I did a sweep of every window and door in my house before I went to bed every night for a while. That was one sick scary mother fricker. Glad they caught his old sick arse.
