No, I hope the sick frick goes to prison and get raped in the arse every day. A lethal injection is way too merciful.

Interesting that his 3 daughters are highly accomplished. An MD and two university instructors.

I don't think that's shocking. The guy was very, very clever. For example, he would stack dishes on bound male victims so he would know instantly if they were trying to escape. And of course, it took a great deal of smarts to get away with 50 rapes and 12 murders for as long as he did.

Would seem to be a good indication that their father (and mother, or mothers) were pretty smart.

law enforcement can get records from companies like 23andme if they request

I don't think they can anymore. I think there is a new law against it.
But I may be thinking of the gene tracing through family members.

Rumor is that he was found through Ancestry (or 23&Me).

Well, this was just mentioned on the news. So, I was wrong and I owe you an apology. Beyond crazy that they found him that way.

Apparently it was a relative who submitted their own sample.. They got a hit and traced it back to him.

I guess that would mean a close relative's dna was in the database, and then the police began looking at the family tree info

Here's a link about the genealogy thing

quote:

The Sacramento Bee, citing Chief Deputy Steve Grippi, reported Thursday that investigators used crime scene DNA and matched it to a relative who was registered on genealogy site and narrowed down possible suspects using that person's family history. Grippi told CNN that information in the report is "accurate."

I watched a couple of recent TV shows about GSK last night. The cold case investigator from Sacramento mentioned the possibility of loosening the parameters of the DNA profile they were trying to match.

He wouldn’t confirm if they were doing it, but did state that could be an option in the future since they hadn’t gotten a direct hit on his DNA. The odds of a man above retirement age getting arrested or having other reason to submit DNA were slim, but a relative with a similar DNA profile might be in the system.

It’s like that movie Minority Report but rather than the police showing up before you commit the murder they wait 40 years, dig thru your garbage then arrest you after there’s already been a bloodbath.

The victims are saying he didn’t get away with it, and I understand why and that he is in jail.

OTOH, he lived free for 40 years after doing all this, so he kinda did get away with it.
