Weird that the DA wouldn't have known about that.

Maybe that's been part of the problem. To be fair, all this was going on before the advent of multiagency task forces.

This gets better and better.

From being at the town hall, to saying his ex-fiances name during the crimes, etc.

This needs to be like 3 movies.

I guess we won’t hear any details about how they nabbed him because it’s an ongoing investigation, right?

Right, that's my thought, too. There is going to be a trial and they don't want to give his attorney too much to work with. Or, at least that's how I look at it.

It sucks, because there's no way that they just randomly decided to start surveillance on this guy 6 days ago. The DA also said that they didn't investigate this guy before 6 days ago. I'm very interested in what occurred last week to make them look into him. Their answer is pretty lame, I'd rather them just say "We can't comment on that at this time".

Ex-law enforcement, with a military background and was in Vietnam. Was he a seal? If so that’s would explain the way he was able to move around and not get caught, and be able to handle the men without much trouble. Was this a continuance of what he was doing during his interrogation practices in Vietnam???

No, he was a naval artillery guy (reference the "on the gun line" bit announcing his hiring at the Exeter police department) and would have barely stepped foot on land in Vietnam much less come into enemy contact. He probably would have learned some of the knots that he ended up using during the crimes, though.

No lulz

The guy is just a micropeen wackjob with above average IQ and so-sociopathic as to be mistaken for having big balls.

Regardless of his age ... give him a quick speedy trial. Let the head shrinkers interview him during the process. Then take his evil arse out back and put a bullet in his nugget and roll his evil arse into an unmarked grave and cover him in shite.

From what I can put together on reddit, Deangelo was interviewed sometime in late 2017 and they weren't satisfied with his answers so he was put on the suspect list.

About a week ago, they received a very credible tip and he became their top suspect and was under constant surveillance. They also said something about discarded dna which probably means they went through his trash or something once it was taken out.

I'd like to know wtf this guy has been doing since 1986 and how/why did he just stop killing people. I read his second daughter was born in 1986 but obviously that didn't really slow him down before

On-going investigation. They are not at liberty to reveal how he became a target of the investigation.

I do wonder though. How can they discount the book, which prompted the updated 4 part documentary, as not having played a role in recent developments?

The timing seems too coincidental to ignore all of the updated media coverage.

Props to all the law enforcement men and women who dedicated their lives to catching this sick man. Anne Marie Schubert, who organized the special task force in 2016, is my hero. Law enforcement gets so much crap thrown their way when they truly live their lives to "serve and protect". Such an uplifting resolution to a sad and horrific story.

Did anyone else catch the interview with one of his victims (from 1977) on HLN? Damn ... she just matter of factly went through what he did to her. Very compelling.

All of the victims, survivors, family members ... how big is today for these people?

Holy cow.

Gonna make a helluva movie. Val Kilmer probably gets the aged lead role ... but who plays the younger version?

This is a fantastic story. This guy was so bold & brazen back then.

"He later sought out couples, forcing the women by knife or gunpoint to bind up the men with shoelaces he brought with him. He would then stack teacups or plates on the male victim's back and would threaten to kill everyone if he heard a clatter. He would steal items from the house and small amounts of cash, and would help himself to food or drinks from the fridge."

His neighbor said that he would yell at neighbors who would mow their lawn too early in the am. shite, that makes half of the OT possible serial killers.

For those that have followed this, I want to know if he was present at the town hall meeting when a guy supposedly stood up and said something about how a real man wouldn't get tied up and let an intruder have his way with his wife.

Then like 3 weeks later, the East Area Rapist showed up and did exactly that to him and his wife

That right there is some crazy stuff!

Leo

or Ryan Gosling. Or Zac Efron, if he wants to make a career out of playing serial killers.

Their answer was "DNA", and something about how they can't explain how they captured the DNA yet. The DA just kept saying that this was all due to DNA, but that doesn't make sense.

ETA: the Sheriff said that the DNA could have led them down many paths or something like that, which leads me to believe that the DNA that they got was from a family member, not directly from him. Then, once he was in custody they got a direct sample from him.
