Socially acceptable.

Started doing it when I finished college, usually went to morning shows. Always had people to go to late shows.
It's only been 2 or 3 movies that ppl had already seen or didn't want to watch.
Ps it's not weird, will feel weird if you went at night.

As long as it's not during the typical "date night" times, I don't think it would be that wierd. But on Friday night at 8 o'clock, it would be a little strange.
If you feel uncomfortable just walk in and take the seat directly beside someone even if the theater is mostly empty. That way it looks like you're with someone. I'm sure they wouldn't mind and you might make a friend for life

Helps when you live down the street from a theatre.

Acceptable.
In fact, I think it's weird to think that people see it as unacceptable. You're going the movie to see and enjoy the movie. That doesn't involve the company of another. It's not much different than seeing a concert, play, watching a game, or reading a book! The ultimate goal is to maximize your own, personal entertainment.
Sure, it's fun to chat with a friend after the movie about their opinions, but that can still be accomplished by going to the movie yourself.

I don't go to movies. I prefer not to support the liberal Hollywood elite.
Is that weird?

Do you go to the movies to talk and socialize with the other people?

I don't care for movies, but if I did, I wouldn't have any problem at all going alone...
I travel a good bit for work and spend most weekninghts eating in resturants alone, so doing that kind of thing by myself is not a problem for me at all...
ETA: I have found that outside of a precious few petty bitches, most people around you in a public place have no idea that you are even there, so it doesn't matter at all whether you are alone or not...

I love going to a movie by myself.
1) I don't have to explain the movie to anyone.
2) Nobody says they don't want popcorn and then proceeds to eat half of my fricking popcorn.

If it's a movie I really wanna see and no one else does, sure why not?
Posted on 8/24/14 at 5:42 pm to LSUTil_iDie
I've never had the desire to but, if I did, I would do it and not give a dam what others thought.

i dont really go to movies at all, but i never saw why it was embarrassing to go alone. I never understood why it is seen as a social spot for adults. I think its more weird to go to the movies with someone else, especially a date. You can't socialize at all with the other person.

Depending on the film, sometimes I'd rather go by myself.
