To quote a realtor we knew when we sold our house in the French Quarter:

You really want to sell it this spring, come summer and everybody is in a bad mood and nothing goes well when perspiration rolls down your back.

(Summer ends in September sometimes, mostly October if you are lucky, and November if it's a typical miserable year.)

We went to New Orleans in October. The only thing worthwhile, and it should be on everyone’s bucket list, is th National WW2 Museum. Stay at Higgins Hotel, right across street from the museum. Great restaurants within walking distance.

Thanks..Will check out..

Tell us some more about these two, especially your thoughts about restaurants and what is lacking. Examples and such.

Get a hotel in the French Quarter. Go pick out a few places to eat and walk around the Riverwalk/Jax brewery area. Make plans to then eat at all the famous spots like Court of 2 sisters, Brennnans, etc. Get back in the hotel by 8pm and restrict your late night activities to the hotel bar past then.

If you do these things every day/night, even then I predict you’ll leave saying “Holy fricking shite!” And then never come back.

Nah, he’s exaggerating.

To your question: The Garden District would be better. It’s good advice to stay out of the French Quarter after about 9 or 10 PM. Use ride share to get around. Go to the quarter in the morning and go to the Garden District and Uptown bars and restaurants at night.

August? Really? That is the absolute worst time to come to NOLA. The days will be swe;ltering and the nights will still be 80 degrees and humid. A month later would make a big difference, and two months later would be heaven.

Get rooms at the Monteleone in the quarter. Self park your car in the garage across the street.

Roam all day and be back before dusk. You’ll have a great time.

You’re going to NOLA in August? And you’re considering a VRBO? In the Garden District?

Could you pick a more miserable time of year with nothing happening?
Also, do you have a death wish?

I go to New Orleans often and lived there for several years recently. New Orleans is a city that I would recommend staying in a hotel unless you know the city very well.
I would recommend staying at Hotel Saint Vincent in the Garden District or in the warehouse district.

I love reading NOLA threads. Work with a guy who lives in Slidell and always recommends people coming from out of town to stay in Slidell and avoid nola.

Had a group of girls come down for training that stayed at the ACE hotel and he was beside himself that they loved it. Kept telling them how lucky they were and made a total arse out himself.

He probably posts here.

Some on my team liked to stay at The Saint or the Ritz, but it was an old dumpy one IIRC

They just renovated the ritz not to long ago. I stayed there recently for a wedding. They did a good job on it.

The Ritz on Canal is definitely not a dump.

The history is meh.
Let’s see what history NOLA lacks:

Military?
Political?
Cultural? (Ha, unintentional pun)
Musical?
Literary?
Commerce/Business?
Engineering/Infrastructure?
Architectural?
Arts?
Culinary?
Supernatural? (If one buys into that)

That’s 11 separate categories that NOLA is arguably in the Top 5 of American cities in.

NYC and possibly SF would be the only cities to surpass NOLA on aggregate.

To contend NOLA’s historical significance is “meh” is just stupid.
