Fun facts the circumference of the earth is 24,901 miles (pole to pole), in about three hours that's how far they will be from the moon. At current speed it would take them 20 hours, or half the time to fly around the earth in a commercial passenger aircraft.
Theoretically, commercial passenger aircraft could fly around the Earth non-stop in approximately 42 hours at cruising speeds of 575–600 mph, though no standard commercial plane has the fuel capacity to achieve this without refueling

The crew Apollo 16 (?) Was given a lifetime honorary membership to the American Auto Body Association after they repaired a lunar rover fender with some old maps.

The pull of gravity from the Moon is now higher than that of Earth on the spacecraft...
Think live coverage starts at 12 on a lot of platforms with them going into blackout a little after 6pm central

The moon is huge now.
The astronauts said they can see topography with the naked eye
they are about to do a burn

Wow, Jim Lovell with the moon day wake up call. They would have recorded that sometime last year.

Of course the first thing they ask about on this historic day is whether they can use the shitter or not.

I hope we get a live earthrise video feed along with some great high def photos of it. This laser data stream is amazing. They get better speeds near the moon than most of us get at home!

Netflix will begin streaming everything at noon today.

Toilet looks to be venting nominally again. I believe CAPCOM told Reid they can use it again. Score another one for the woman plumber.

Are you guys seeing all the white dots and stuff flying through the screen in the live feed? I'm assuming it's a combination of other satellites, space junk, and maybe stuff coming off the capsule?

I’m not watching but it’s gotta be stuff from the capsule. Most likely urine ice crystals.

I wonder who does the math on determining the correct timing and velocity with which to eject the poo?

Turds are kept on board. Urine is all that’s ejected.

I don't know why but them talking about Apollo 8 and showing Lovell's patch hit a nerve.
I can't wait to see the 2026 version!

One thing that’s funny about all of the toilet issues:
Apollo missions didn’t have toilets. They had an adhesive bag with an insert to use their finger to push the turd in.
It’s a matter of record even for an astronaut to say on CAPCOM “somebody get a napkin, we have a turd floating.”
Obviously they all hated it. NASA even gave them specialized food that was almost completely absorbable so they wouldn’t need to crap often.
In between that and wearing the same clothes for over a week the comment often remarked by the recovery team when they opened the hatch was the horrible smell.

I may have just cried as Commander Wiseman named a crater after his late wife.
