I know enforcing not taking empty seats can be strict. I don’t know if purchased, checked in, and officially boarded seats by same group are that strict. In this case those seats even if originally part of group purchase would not have had check ins or boarding passes as the passengers didn’t go. I doubt she checked in 2 people who didn’t board the plane.
Depending on terms there is also possibility tickets purchased but unused could get some kind of credit towards another flight and not really be considered purchases anymore once door is closed. I have never heard of this airline before, so I don’t know anything on its policies.
I read the below from a 3rd party site specifically about Southwest.

How many times do you think she repeated “we paid fo these seats?” In rapid fashion. And the. How many times did they repeat “what did we do?” When kicked off the plane.

Yes, but I'm not talking about trying to get into first class or anything like that. I'm talking people of the same party who simply want to swap seats with each other.

For example, I'm flying with my wife. I decide I'll take the aisle seat, even though it was technically assigned to her. How exactly does that make us entitled assholes?
I've ran into this issue before. 9/10, it's never a problem. But I've had flight attendants tell us it wasn't allowed and to switch back.

Especially on the return flight. No shows on the outbound will have their entire ticket forfeited.
