I haven’t stolen food from a hotel, but I will stop at a random hotel lobby restroom to drop a deuce while out on the road. Those restrooms are way cleaner than gas station restrooms.

Hotel key (or phone) access to items only

There’s a way to stop it but not sure if it’s worth the trouble - our society is declining rapidly

I’ll add this to the book I’m writing. It’s called “Shower caps and fuzzy slippers. A guide to navigating urban America.”

I stayed at one of the shitty motels in Forrest City AR not too long ago, and it was keycard access to get to the breakfast area.

Agreed. Best value for an interstate exit hotel IMO.

Yup.

And they allow pets (had to stay there for a week with cats while house was being painted and new floors were put in).

That person wasn’t struggling for food or anything. I just can’t imagine posting stealing food on social media like it’s normal or be proud of herself doing it like she deserves it (could not listen to her running her mouth after awhile so not sure what she said after starting the waffles).

When people do it just because they can and likely because they know they can claim racism if challenged and boast about it that will end the convenience for honest people. I am guessing some struggling have done this stuff for awhile, but I don’t think they would take pride in it and share it with others like was done here.

I stay in hotels a lot, and more of them are requiring a keycard to enter all doors all hours of the day with a phone to use if you are checking in.

I feel this will start becoming mainstream, especially as it offers more security for floor access as well.

That door better shut quickly to stop those feeling entitled to “free” food.

This has been happening for 30-40 years, now people just can't help but post everything, even breaking the law, on social media.

If we treated it for what it is (theft) and prosecuted accordingly this would go away.

Most of our problems are traced back to the good intentions of people who are largely good people but who are living near and have imported too many people who are low trust individuals and refuse to hold them accountable for their actions.

In Los Angeles, in a decent suburb, we were told of a variation on this.
Family from out of town comes to visit. Family in town join them at the breakfast buffet every morning of their visit. Walking right past the front desk, with no pretense of staying there.
We learned to ask for food with proteins, since it would "run out" after the locusts swarmed. They did keep some set in the back room for people who stayed there.

Yes, for people staying at the hotel.

The breakfast they serve is so cost efficient I promise the booking more thna pay for it....but there sure wasn't anyone stealing shite so...
