Literally, I did not see EVEN ONE VEHICLE hang out in the left lane even one second longer than they should have.

They actually police that heavily and fine anyone doing it. The way it should be here. It would alleviate a lot of traffic issues. It's against the traffic laws to even pass on the right.

The supposedly actually all get out of the way for emergency vehicles too. We just let the bob and weave around us.

Rettungsgasse. In a stau you pull far left or right depending on what lane you are in to make a lane in the middle for emergency vehicles.

In theory, we are taught the same thing here.
Problem is US driver education is amateur mostly family (that are often terrible drivers) and school teachers/coaches perhaps an online class thrown in and in many states entirely voluntary. In Germany you must go to a professional driving school and the courses are a real commitment (time and $). Driving is treated as a privilege not a right bestowed at 16.

I know from personal experience that Southern European drivers (the Balkans) are G-dawful. "Lafayette" bad

Really? I do not see that. What country or all of them? I would say inner city maybe, but not on the highway system

It's also more expensive for a license and the process is more extensive.

Nearly 10 years driving autobahn and never saw or heard of anyone pulled over for camping in left lane (including Americans with bad driving habits.) All it takes is one time when you longer a little too long after passing and a car comes racing up on your arse at 130+ mph. You stay the hell out of the way after that harrowing experience.

That’s what happens when the cops actually pull left lane campers over.

I've seen many instances where they don't have to do that. Just their pulling over into the left lane behind some slow-arse is often enough to get them to move to the right.

Seeing them fill the state's coffers with fines from assmonkies who camp in the left lane wouldn't hurt my feelings though.

Add in they start drinking younger but driving older. Most dont start driving until later when more mature and spending a hefty amount of their own money to do so. Supervised permit age is 17 and 18 for license but many young adults wait because of costs and access to public transport in their more congested country. Even small villages have bus routes because it's the primary means of transport for many regular people not just the poors.

It seems like every tenth car you see in the city is a fahrschule vehicle.

I saw that in another country on an interstate - both lanes sagged halfway into their shoulder so there was a perfect parting of the Red Sea for the emergency vehicle to go through.

Germans are autistic rule followers so this makes sense. But honestly would prefer a driving environment like this. Texas drivers suck.

Driving on the Autobahn will make you want to never drive on the interstate again.

Similar experience in France - everyone actually follows the rules.

FOUR main problems/issues in the US regarding 'driving' 1. Drivers licenses are basically given away to virtually ANYONE with little/NO real training 2. The 'trucking lobby' openly bribes our congessional 'leadership', allowing semis to drive anyway/anytime they please ! 3. US roadways are not as well maintained as those in Western Europe 4. The US literally allows any 'shite-box' vehicle on ANY roadway !

Good for you. I haven’t read the thread yet but I’m jealous and hope you enjoyed every second of it.
