Germans: the autobahn is a true delight

I just got back from a driving tour across central Europe, including several hundred autobahn miles.
I'll just say this: if there were a TD.de, it's unclear what their version of "Texas drivers like to hang out in the left lane" threads would be.
It honestly seemed as if there was a large magnet in the right hand shoulder that was powerfully pulling all cars to the right.
Literally, I did not see EVEN ONE VEHICLE hang out in the left lane even one second longer than they should have.
It was basically heaven on earth.

Our version of Texans are the Dutch. Be on the watch for those yellow plates. Same applies on the slopes in the Alps.
But yes it’s a real treat driving the Autobahn regularly.
ETA the best part of the Autobahn is no semi trucks in the left lane, ever.

In all seriousness, Germans are literally the exception that proves the rule. I have it on reliable authority that French and Italian drivers are awful. I know from personal experience that Southern European drivers (the Balkans) are G-dawful. "Lafayette" bad.

Did you happen to notice the demographic of the drivers.... I have a suspicion

That’s what happens when the cops actually pull left lane campers over.

Cops don’t patrol the Autobahn, people just follow the rules.

Fair point, but the Polizei remain German.

Stick around. In another 10-20 years you won’t even recognize Europe.

There is a law that one must move to the right to allow a car behind you pass on the left.
We have similar laws here in some states, but I figure the difference is that it is enforced/ respected there.

quote:In my mind, this is the rule of the road on every single mile of 4-lane-or-greater highway in the entire US. It's utterly absurd that the median driver simply refuses to obey it.

Also, they use their turn singles, seemingly every single time they are supposed to.

European drivers are taught (according to my interpreter) to drive in the right hand lane, unless you are passing. When passing, they turn on thier Left Turn blinker and move to the next lane over. Flashing your lights is NOT a thing over there. And after you pass, move right.
Also, they keep their turn signal on, until they have passed all the cars slower than them. I found it refreshing,

You won't unless there's an accident. I pass the polizei now without giving it a second thought. Only thing to worry about are the speed cameras when the speed limit is in effect. Waze will let you know where they are.

It is against the law and first offense is 300 Euros and it will up from there also with taking your license away. Once you overtake get to the right ,because someone may come flying up in the left lane and they will flash their lights...
