They didn't go after queers, they went after activists. I am absolutely okay with that. That's assuming the article is accurate.
The article states it is not illegal to be gay in Turkey. The article further cedes these were activists, not just random gay people.

Honestly the most surprising news here is that there are dozens of LBGQ activists and journalists in Turkey. I'd have assumed there would be virtually zero what with the whole fear of death thing and all.

There's alot about this that's logically inconsistent. Same thing as jews still voting Democrat. If Muslims had their way, Jews would probably be first on the chopping block, but they vote for Muslims in the US.
