I still don’t understand and can’t grasp what marathon end game is. If they are woke, donate it to the river road historical society and say they will pay moving cost to dismantle and relocate if they provide the land. They can be woke by getting rid and not supporting any longer. I just don’t see what abandoning the building and boarding it up will do. Unless they use it for offices. They did just build that admin bld close to it and also uses other old houses in river rd they own.

And I don’t agree with any of this crap but the Robert E lee statue wasn’t destroyed, just relocated.

To a remote warehouse, out of sight out of mind?

Would not be surprised if marython builds a huge steel wall around it so that no one can see it and keeps everyone out.

Their endgame is using the land for the plant. It’s a nice sized chunk or property that sits on river road that they already own.

That shift came as various plantations, often the site of contemporary weddings, suffered a backlash from those who object to such celebrations at places where enslaved men, women and children were forced to work.

I hope they never go to Europe.
Or Africa.
Or South America.
Or Asia.
Or North America…

God this line of thinking is soooooooo stupid

I'm sure some individual into old architecture and historic preservation will buy it.

Marathon will not sell. Its in their blast radius. The fight to save this house has been going on for 18 months. There were even public/private partnerships proposed. They rejected very fair offers.

The fact that they refuse to move the house is a travesty. They can get fricked.

I love when people rattle off what's on top of their head as fact. There's land all around Marathon for expansion. That Plantation area is tiny in comparison.

This is why I come to the OT. I did not know this and am now making a point to go see it before I can't. I love old architecture and antiques and history even though some of it is ugly.

That would be great if Marathon would agree to sell it, but that doesn't appear to be the case. I wish they'd sell it and at least allow someone to move it elsewhere. It's sad to think that one day this beautiful example of architecture will just fall into disrepair.

Today, plantations are being used for historical reasons, as B&Bs, event locations, filming locations etc... I just don't see what's wrong with that.

You can bet your bibby objections like that were raised by neurotic self-hating whites trying to curry favor with their own conscience.

Is that picture from the 70s? Marathon has tanks, pipe racks, and conveyors surrounding that plantation now. Plus its really not much land. They could put one tank on the plantation property. Marathon has plenty land to expand anyway.

I don't like that bright blue color. By why is it being shut down?

Is that even a thing with race? There are a lot of black people who get married at plantations.

That's an ugly plantation. There are so many better looking plantations like Whitney and Oak Alley

Whitney

Oak Alley
