Garage Storage...Cabinets or other ideas?

I'm looking to increase my storage in my garage. The conventional wisdom is that I'm gonna go Craigslisting for some used cabinets and just install them. But I'm wondering if anyone else uses something more innovative and/or potentially inexpensive?
Elbow Brackets and just some plywood? Hooks on the wall? What does your garage storage/organization system look like?

when your garage is open, how much space do you have between the garage door and the ceiling? if you have a few feet, you can hang some shelving from the ceiling.

I'd go with rubber coated wire shelves for tubs/larger things and hooks/brackets for storing extension cords/ladders/shovels/rakes etc.
The wire shelving doesn't collect dust and dirt like solid shelving does.

Bought some unfinished tall cabinets like thisfrom surplus warehouse and painted them. Less than $125 each and relatively sturdy for what I need.

Dude, it's not all that difficult or expensive to build your own shelving with some wood from your local hardware store.

It all depends on what you are using it for. When I had a secure garage I liked the pegboard best for tool storage. I could see exactly what I wanted and could easly put it back where it belonged.
I had a tall cabinent for bottled stuff and larger powered tools. Air tools I kept in a craftsman tool chest I picked up off of craigslist.

I have a couple of Hyloft cieling mounted shelves that holds crap I don't use often. They are awesome for that. Don't take up and wall room. Keeps stuff out of the way.

I just bought several of these heavy duty shelving units (like $80 a pop at walmart) and a bunch of Rubbermaid container's to keep everything organized. I have a very large garage and keep everything in there so I don't have to go in the attic and it keeps everything organized.
