Probably a combo of insurance and property taxes. Plus, people bought these thinking STRs would be easy money. Hint: they're not. Probably a lot of underwater properties.

Hurricane Ike did a damn-damn to a lot of properties back in 08(?) and I wonder about a lot of the “repairs” that were done afterwards.
