My daughter has had her DPT for 12 years, her doctorate program was 3 years. One school she visited was a 2 year program, she's glad she didn't go there. Schooling was a little over $100,000. There is a repayment plan where if you work for a non profit for 10 years and don't miss a payment the remainder of the loan is forgiven. As a DPT doing home health she makes the initial eval and then the therapy is passed to a PT to do. Takes less than an hour and is paid a little over $100 for it.

My wife is an OT, we have a lot of friends in HH, PTs and other OTs. An OTA making 100k is extremely rare with out working a lot of hrs and taking visits on the weekends.
Your buddy better never leave that job.
You max out very early in your career unless you are going to start your own clinic. Even then it's not a lucrative as one would think.

Wife is a PT with 20 years experience. She could work as much as she wants but only works a day a week to keep her skillset up. Point is there is a definite demand there.

Unless you run your own PT/OT practice, its not worth it. Many make less than 100k
Pharmacy actually still has a decent income to cost of program ratio. I finished with less than a years salary worth of debt. Interest accumulating bumped it up to a little more than a years salary by the time I finished.
However independents are struggling with PBM reimbursements, working for a major chain CVS, Walgreens, Walmart is absolutely miserable. Unless you work in industry, for a compounding facility or for a hospital, its pretty miserable.
Love my current job and would be difficult to find something as good, but I would not go back down the same path.
I'd probably do nursing, work a few travel contracts, and save up enough to be a CRNA or APRN

My daughter is a COTA. She’d planned to work a bit then apply to ULM OT program. She has a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, as well. She loves her job and is darn good at it. She’s decided at this point to not move forward because she enjoys the therapy part and does it all except the consults and insurance. Another issue is insurance is screwing up allied health. I don’t think pay is as good as it used to be. Several OTs she works under have said don’t do it. At this point, she doesn’t feel the debt is worth it. I’d love to see her go on, she’s really got a gift for this work, it’s not just a job to her.

I refused to go back to retail
I lucked up after a length job search and got a pharmacy access type position where I go to doctor offices and discuss how I can help them with insurance issues and our patient support program
It’s a good bit of driving but I get .70 a mile reimbursed and free food and hotels . It’s a perfect job for someone like me with no kids .
I love what I do, few pharmacists are in my role but I wish I’d transitioned to this years ago. I’m pretty much done by noon everyday . Not chained to a fricking Walgreens computer standing in the same place wanting to die from 8-8 .

I have heard ULM pharmacy enrollment is down. I think its a mix of the fact that the job isnt that desirable anymore, there are a glut of schools in the south, and now kids are choosing to go to the DO school on ULM's campus.

Most of these healthcare roles are getting eroded by saturation and healthcare reimbursements. You have a bunch of schools just being diploma mills to crank out professionals. Seen pay go way down unless wanting to work crazier hours.

My daughter is a COTA. She originally went to La Tech to become an OT but halfway thru second year got pregnant. The boy wanted her to get an abortion and when she refused he bailed. She moved back home and switched to BPCC and finished what she needed to be some a COTA. She got on with an outfit that works primarily with Pediatrics and loves it. Was making about 50-55k a year I believe. The owner just recently promoted her to clinic manager and bumper her pay to around $65 a year. Would have been more now and back when she was a COTA but she only works 4 days a week. She misses treating patients but obviously couldn’t turn down the $10k year raise.

I was in retail briefly out of school before moving to hospital. I stayed for almost 6 years doing PRN retail work. Finally let it go and picked up PRN at a second hospital instead.
Love the hospital I work for. We have been in the black on the balance sheet for the last 6-7 months. But if something ever happens and they lay us all off and I couldn't find work at another hospital, I'd do Medical or Pharma sales before going back into retail full time.

Enrollment is down across the board. Applicants are also down. So they are taking less qualified students. The naplex pass rates are abysmal for many schools.
Half the students I get can't do basic math. Its wild. Can't imagine spending the money they spend only to have to take the board exams 2-3 times

As part of the final review process to ensure accuracy, no. A tech doesn’t have the expertise and honestly, the desire to make sure everything is accurate.

Shout out to Samford University and AU for their first time pass rates of 80%+. My kid just passed his and one of his professors at Samford said he made it 22 of 23 to pass thus far from the May graduating class. I am sure that percentage will drop as the early takers are usually the better students. He was sweating it out waiting on those results for a week.

They’ve made the NAPLEX easier over the last decade too.
I was just a very average pharmacy school student, kept my head above water barely . It was incredibly stressful .
But after 4 years of studying the stuff, there really is no excuse for failing that type of basic competency exam to get your license
I mean it’s all you’ve known for those years.
