I think we can all agree that the best news to come out of the legislative session this week is that Shreveport is getting a law school. Because the one thing that is really holding this state back is a deficiency of attorneys.

Yep. My mom bumped a woman at a light accidentally letting pressure off the brake. It didn't leave a mark on either car and the woman said no worries. A few weeks later....sued. Deposed my ditzy mom and was subpoenaing them for financial worth etc. Asking for max insurance coverage and more. Outrageous bullshite.

I was riding with a girl back in college. old pick up in front of us slammed on their brakes to a dead stop on a 55mph state hwy. All because their was a dead kitten in the road. like it had been run over numerous times, dead. We hit the trailer hitch/ball on this ladies truck. All it caused on the front bumper of a nissan maxima was a 1.5" scratch in the paint.

She needed an ambulance, got lawyers, harassed the girls family and eventually got $75k from the insurance company.

Well you sound as if you are surprised. This scam is as old as cars.

ETA, you also assumed the collision occurred while traveling 55.

Where did I say that? I said they were traveling the speed limit or slightly over before braking to a complete and unexpected stop.

Obvious? I was in the car in the back with the girl whose insurance company got sued. I am not sure there many at fault accidents from the person being hit....

Hello. Welcome to obvious.

The car in the back who rear ends someone else is the vehicle/driver who gets sued.

The girl who got hit from behind received $75k because your friend caused the injuries on a highway.

Why does this need to be stated for a 3rd time?

And the person who sued was the person who caused the complete and unexpected stop.....

What happened to 'No Fault' auto insurance which was touted as an answer to the frivolous suits??? There has to be a better way to deal with minor accidents.

I got tapped at a stop light recently. Got out and my truck looked fine. Gave the lady a hug, and told her to have a nice day. Yesterday, I got served. She’s suing me for sexual assault.

Just kidding. But she was really ecstatic, and I thought it wasn’t a big deal. But after reading this thread, I guess a lot of people take advantage of stuff like that.

Alternately, an old lady caused me to flip so many times I lost count. And had I not been in a race prepped vehicle with full exo, harnesses, and all around fricking immortal... I would have died.

Her insurance paid 10k on the vehicle and 30k on the medical.

Horse shite.

As for anxiety, no. But I still sometimes brace if someone turns in front of me.

I'm in for 3 pages and 10 people got $100k checks

$100k settlements if going to trial I believe... but 99% insurance settlements for BI is $10k or less. Lawyers aren't waiting for their money that long, they will bankrupt themselves.
