Friend got in trouble for saying Merry Christmas at Vitamin Shop

Friend works there. Made the mistake of saying Merry Christmas to customers. Got in trouble. Company policy is to say Happy Holidays and woe to the employee who deviates from that line.

Our division president (Fortune 500 company) sent out a "merry Christmas" email and I was like Christianity FTW BOOM!

Uh, yea? They coach and direct employees on most aspects of their interactions and being vague in your holiday greetings seems incredibly simple to direct.

Who does? What companies do you know directs their employees to say Happy Holidays rather than Merry Christmas?
On a management level I could see it, but I doubt most retail places are training their entry level employees on stuff like this.

I don't know anyone who gets upset at someone saying merry Christmas. My bosses are Jews. They tell me merry Christmas and call our company parties Christmas parties.

Was in the Post Office yesterday and some old bitch went completely bonkers on the guy at the counter because her stamps had Merry Christmas on them. She started SCREAMING that it was discriminatory and she didn't believe in Christmas, etc. Then she threw the stamps at him. He was the only nice postal employee I have seen in a long, long time and I think the crazy lady ruined him.
